Monday - Friday About Abernathy Abernathy Finish Master is a premier custom cabinetry manufacturer in Southwest Florida. We build, finish, and install ultra-premium, American-made cabinetry for high-end residential customers. Under new ownership, we are building a craftsman-first culture backed by strong operational support. The Role (No people management duties) We are looking for an elite Cabinet Finisher & Custom Colorist to anchor our in-house premium finishing operations. You will be the final, critical touchpoint on our luxury products. This is a pure craftsman role. Your sole focus is the booth, the mixing station, and delivering a flawless final product.
Key Responsibilities Custom Color Matching:
Formulate, mix, and match complex custom stains, paints, tints, and glazes to match client specifications and designer samples perfectly.
Premium Application:
Expertly spray high-end architectural finishes
Surface Prep & Quality Control:
Oversee and execute the final prep, sanding, grain-filling, and sealing of raw wood and MDF to ensure a flawless substrate before spraying.
Touch-Ups & Field Repair:
Perform high-level, seamless touch-ups on-site for high-end residential installs when necessary.
Equipment & Supply Management:
Maintain, clean, and troubleshoot shop spray equipment, pumps, fluid lines, and
AAA / HVLP
guns. Monitor coating inventory and order supplies proactively to eliminate shop downtime. What We Are Looking For 5+ years of professional experience in custom cabinet finishing.
Mastery of color theory:
Deep understanding of tinting, blending, and how wood grain species affect final color outcomes under different lighting conditions.
Chemical Coating Expertise:
Complete understanding of pot life, flash times, catalysts, and curing processes for industrial wood coatings, including troubleshooting environmental factors like SWFL humidity.
Zero-Ramp Autonomy:
Ability to step into a custom spray booth on Day 1 and run it with zero hand-holding.
Tool Mastery:
Deep experience with Air-Assisted Airless (AAA) and HVLP spray systems. The Practical Bench Test (Show Us What You Can Do) Qualified candidates will be invited to our shop for a brief, hands-on finishing and color-matching assessment. We will provide you with raw wood samples, mixing tints, tools, and a target designer finish to replicate. This is your opportunity to show us your prep routine, your mixing logic, your spray technique, and your eye for detail.
