Shop Assistant (Part-Time)

Compensation:

$18-25/hour, based on experience About Monolith Knives Monolith Knives is a boutique handmade knife studio founded in 2013. We build custom and small-batch kitchen and folding knives by hand, working closely with chefs, collectors, and specialty retailers around the country. Our audience runs from home cooks drawn in by the story and craftsmanship, to professional chefs who need tools that perform under pressure. It's a small, hands-on operation, and we care as much about doing right by the people who carry our knives as we do about the knives themselves. Why This Role We're growing, and we're looking for new team members to grow with us. You don't need to have made a knife before, but you should come in with fabrication, metalworking, or carpentry experience. This is a hands-on role, working alongside us to build the knives that carry the Monolith name. There is also potential for this role to grow into a full-time position. What You'll Do Depending on your experience level: Make knives and knife parts, and complete repairs and sharpening Manage stages of the process on small-batch production projects Help maintain equipment and keep the shop organized Contribute to a culture of collaboration, quality, and craft Occasionally attend shows and events in the area What You Bring Experience with fabrication, metalworking, or carpentry A self-starter who can take instruction and run with a project without a lot of oversight Confident using power and hand tools Thoughtful, focused, and collaborative Able to problem-solve and hold a high standard of quality Bonus, not required: experience specifically in knife making or woodworking The Workspace You'll be working hands-on in an active fabrication shop, with tools like grinders, saws, forges, and finishing equipment. It's serious work, sometimes loud, sometimes hot and dirty, and we take safety as seriously as we take the craft: standard safety practices apply, and PPE is provided and expected to be worn in shop areas. The workshop is located on private property in a rural setting with domestic and farm animals nearby.
