General Definition of Work The crew chief, locksmith, under general supervision, performs journey-level work with limited decision-making discretion providing technical expertise and installing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading locking and access control systems. Position develops work schedules for staff and monitors completion of assigned work. Employee performs both school-based and district-level work to carry-out Board of Education policies under the direction of the Supervisor of Maintenance Operations. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time. Essential Functions Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures Perform skilled journey level work for the assigned trade and implement the developed district-wide locksmith program Lead and serve as the technical expert for an assigned crew. Guide, direct, and coach others regarding application and interpretation of technical trade skills Plan, prioritize, and assign work tasks to crew members Adjust, maintain, repair, and replace door locks, padlocks, tumbler locks, combination locks, and various other lock hardware such as panic bars, door checks, latches, catches, fasteners, and door closures Design master key systems which include sub-master and single keys. Maintain records Review key schedules and blueprints to assist with new construction projects Open and repair jammed and vandalized locks. Respond to emergency situations that may involve opening a jammed lock or repairs on locks to secure outside doors Instruct crew members in proper work methods and standards, monitor crew work quality, ensure adherence to time schedules and safe work practices, provide performance feedback, and input performance evaluations Identify areas needing repair or maintenance and take corrective action Maintain accurate records of material and costs; assist in budget development Maintains a working quantity in inventory and reorders when necessary Provide input on the selection of crew members Assist the supervisor with getting quotes for contract assignments when required Safely operate a district fleet vehicle to travel to assigned job sites, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and company driving policies Maintain the vehicle in clean, orderly, and serviceable condition, promptly reporting any maintenance needs, damage, or safety concerns Perform related work as assigned or required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in relevant trade Knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions for relevant trade Knowledge of district purchasing policies and practices Skilled in supervision including communication, motivation, and performance feedback Skilled in the operation of required equipment, tools, and instruments Skilled in writing routine reports and documents Ability to assign and supervise work, provide instruction, and lead a small crew Ability to read and interpret documents and construction drawings Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions Ability to lift heavy objects and perform heavy manual labor Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress Ability to reflect appropriate response to situations, while maintaining a professional and personal demeanor Ability to learn and use specialized tools or equipment, or software related to business needs Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations Ability to communicate effectively Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent required Minimum of three (3) years of work experience as a locksmith required Certification through the National Locksmith Institute (NLI) preferred Equivalent combination of education and experience # of Jobs 1.00
