A Locksmith installs door and building locks and makes copies of locks and keys for customers. Assists people who lose keys or get locked out of cars or buildings, and changes building locks as needed for security.

THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced Shop Locksmith who can perform skilled locksmith work accurately, help customers confidently, and keep learning as the trade changes. This is primarily an in-shop position. Customers will bring keys, locks, cylinders, safes, automotive keys and fobs, and other security hardware to you for identification, diagnosis, repair, duplication, programming, rekeying, or replacement. Occasional field or emergency support may be needed based on business demand. This is not an entry-level trainee position. We are willing to pay toward the upper end of the range for someone who can demonstrate broad, current locksmithing ability and begin contributing quickly.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Identify and duplicate residential, commercial, automotive, and specialty keys using manual, semi-automatic, and electronic key machines Originate, cut, and program automotive keys, transponder keys, remotes, and key fobs; confirm compatibility and test completed work Rekey, pin, repair, and key alike or key different common cylinders, locks, padlocks, cam locks, cabinet locks, desk and file locks, and customer-brought hardware Build, maintain, and service master key systems while protecting accurate key-control records Use picking, shimming, bypass, impressioning, and other appropriate locksmith methods within company procedures and legal authorization requirements Diagnose lock and key problems and recommend the correct repair or replacement instead of guessing or taking shortcuts Assist customers with safe selection and sales; perform safe openings, combination changes, basic servicing, and related work within your demonstrated competency Function-test keys, locks, fobs, and repaired hardware before returning them to the customer Accurately use Workiz for customer records, job and invoice documentation, standardized Price Book items, payments, inventory locations, notes, photos, and status updates Use manufacturer resources, parts catalogs, diagnostic tools, modern search tools, and AI-assisted research responsibly to locate information and solve unfamiliar problems Maintain key machines, tools, work areas, shop inventory, and customer property to company standards Communicate clearly with customers, dispatch, supervisors, and other technicians so everyone involved knows the status of the work Support field lockouts and other locksmith work when operational needs require it
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Verifiable professional locksmithing experience; strong candidates will generally have at least two years of hands-on experience Demonstrated proficiency in several locksmithing areas—not merely exposure to one narrow specialty Ability to identify common key blanks and keyways and operate multiple types of key-cutting equipment Practical experience with rekeying, pinning, lock repair, picking, shimming, and mechanical troubleshooting Automotive key and key-fob cutting/programming experience is strongly preferred Master key, safe, or advanced automotive experience is valuable and may support pay toward the upper end of the range Comfort using computers, tablets, mobile apps, diagnostic equipment, online references, and new technology Ability and willingness to meet all Texas DPS licensing, registration, fingerprinting, background, and employer-affiliation requirements applicable to locksmith employees Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Clear communication, professional customer service, sound judgment, attention to detail, and respect for security procedures A continued-learning mindset: the trade changes, the tools change, and we expect our technicians to keep developing
