U.S. Pipe is seeking a 1st Shift Machinist for our Bessemer, AL location . This facility is a heavy industrial manufacturing operation. The Machinist role sets ups and operates all types of machine tools and performs all types of layout, fitting and assembly work. As a Machinist , you will: Work from job cards, prints and other written and verbal instructions, regarding work assignment. Interprets drawings and sketches; plans and determines working procedure. Performs layout work; makes sketches. Select and grind tools in accordance with the hardness, machine ability, and other properties of parts or materials to be machined. Procure or make jigs, fixtures or machine attachments required for the work to be machined. Set up and operate all types of machine tools and machine centers to drill, face, cut, turn, bore, mill or shape, etc., iron, steel, alloys, non-ferrous and non-metallic materials and parts to precision tolerances and specified finishes, adjusting stops, feeds and speeds for efficient machining. Check and measure work with gauges, micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments. Assemble, fit, align, level and adjust machinery and equipment. Operate and/or hook and direct crane to transfer and position material or parts to be machined or assembled. Perform all work in a safe and efficient manner and keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition. Clean up all work areas and maintains machine cleanlinessSkills and Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required Associates Degree preferred with focus as a Machinist (CNC preferred) Certified Machinist strongly preferredSkills:
Demonstrates understanding of machining principles and machine setup Able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings Able to use and read micrometers, tape measure, dial indicator, scale, and caliper Proficient in use of hand tools Ability to program and operate CNC machine centers preferred Ready to Apply?
