About Jordan Machine Company Jordan Machine Company has been machining in Birmingham since 1948, and we have been 100% employee-owned since 1997. Our 25,000 sq ft shop runs 17 CNC machines: seven CNC machining centers, with up to 102" of X travel and horizontal capacity for work up to 10,000 lb, and ten CNC lathes, including a vertical turning lathe with a 46" swing and turning capacity to 12 feet. We also do welding, keyseating, assembly, inspection, and paint under the same roof. We make parts for steel mills, mineral processing and size-reduction equipment, foundries, pipe producers, and rail and heavy-fabrication customers, in everything from mild steel and 4140 to stainless, bronze, aluminum, and Hastelloy. A generation of our machinists is retiring, and we are training the next one. That is what this job is. The job You will start as an entry-level CNC machinist on either our mill side or our lathe side, working alongside an experienced machinist who will teach you how we run the shop. You do not need CNC experience. You need to show up on time, pay attention, and want to learn a trade you can build a career on. What you will learn and do: Load and unload parts, set up workholding, and run proven programs on CNC mills or lathes Read blueprints and job travelers, and check your own work with calipers, micrometers, and gauges Change inserts and tooling, measure and adjust offsets, and keep parts in tolerance Deburr, clean, and stage finished parts for inspection and shipping Clock your time by job and task on the shop time clock, and keep your machine and work area clean Work safely: wear your PPE, respect machine guarding, and look out for the people around you As you progress: setups from scratch, program edits at the control, and live-tool and multi-axis turning What we are looking for 18 or older with a high school diploma or GED Mechanical aptitude and comfort with shop math: fractions, decimals, reading a tape measure and a caliper Reliable attendance. We run to customer delivery dates and the whole crew counts on you being here. Able to stand for a full shift and lift [50 lb] safely, and comfortable working around heavy parts and moving equipment Able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen. We are a drug-free workplace. A plus, not a requirement: machine-tool trade school, NIMS credentials, manual machining, welding or fabrication, or any hands-on mechanical work Machinists furnish their own basic hand tools [see notes] Pay and schedule [$20.00 - $24.00 per hour] to start, depending on experience, with raises as your skills develop Full-time day shift, [Monday through Friday].
