Job Description

Manual MachinistPosition OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to produce precision parts using manual milling machines and lathes. The ideal candidate will translate engineering drawings into accurate, finished components, maintain tooling and equipment, and ensure parts meet quality and tolerance specifications. This role emphasizes hands-on machining skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work from blueprints and basic GD&T concepts.

Key ResponsibilitiesSet up and operate manual milling machines and lathes to machine parts to specified dimensions and tolerancesRead and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to determine machining requirementsPerform precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other inspection toolsApply fundamental GD&T principles to ensure parts meet specified geometric tolerancesSelect, install, and maintain cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding devicesPerform routine machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting to keep equipment in safe working orderInspect finished parts for quality, document inspection results, and make adjustments as neededCollaborate with engineers, CNC programmers, and fabricators to support production goals and continuous improvementMaintain a clean, safe work area and follow company safety procedures and PPE requirementsKeep accurate production records, job travelers, and material usage logsQualificationsProven experience in machining with an emphasis on manual machining (minimum 2-4 years preferred)Strong hands-on skills operating manual mills and lathesProficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering drawingsWorking knowledge of GD&T principles and the ability to apply them during inspection and machiningFamiliarity with precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gaugesBasic mechanical aptitude for routine maintenance and troubleshooting of machine toolsComfortable working with tight tolerances and performing repetitive, detail-oriented tasksGood communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a teamHigh school diploma, technical certificate, or completion of a machinist apprenticeship is preferredNice to have: experience with CNC operation/programming, fabrication processes, and facility maintenance
