Our Technology Career Institute (TCI) in Carlsbad is seeking an experienced Machinist Technology & CNC Instructor to provide hands-on instruction in manual and CNC machining, CNC programming, Mastercam, blueprint reading, GD&T, precision measurement, metrology, tooling, shop math, and related manufacturing topics. Today's machinists work in high-tech, precision manufacturing environments serving industries such as aerospace, medical devices, defense, automotive, and advanced manufacturing. Our accelerated Machinist Technology Program provides approximately 486 hours of hands-on training and prepares students with the technical and workplace skills needed to enter the manufacturing industry. The curriculum includes shop math, metal properties, blueprint reading, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), precision measuring, metrology, tooling, G&M codes, manual machining, CNC machining and operation, CNC programming, safety, Lean manufacturing, and related manufacturing practices. Students also participate in hands-on projects, industry tours, guest speaker events, career readiness activities, and internship/work-based learning opportunities. The instructor may also provide instruction in short-term CNC programming and manufacturing courses, including introductory and intermediate CNC programming using Mastercam Mill , as well as Blueprint Reading with GD&T . Instruction may include CNC programming fundamentals, G&M codes, Boolean logic, three-axis CNC milling, machine and control definitions, post configuration, variable definitions, formatting, post lines and post text, modality, control definitions, more advanced Mastercam programming techniques, complex programs and designs, production and programming practices, and program testing using HAAS simulators. Blueprint and GD&T instruction may include reading and interpreting engineering drawings, multi-view drawings, dimensions and tolerances, manufacturing symbols, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and basic inspection and measurement methods. The instructor will provide engaging, hands-on instruction; demonstrate safe and effective machine operation, setup, programming, tooling, measurement, and inspection practices; monitor student progress; provide coaching and feedback; evaluate student performance; and maintain required student records. The instructor will work collaboratively with other instructors to maintain a consistent and integrated curriculum and will participate in curriculum development and incorporate feedback from industry Advisory Committee members. The instructor will also provide recommendations regarding curriculum, equipment, tooling, supplies, and emerging industry technologies and help ensure that instruction reflects current manufacturing practices and employer needs. Additional responsibilities include supporting industry tours, guest speakers, internships, work-based learning, and other career-connected learning opportunities; developing and maintaining relationships with industry partners; encouraging professionalism, good work habits, problem-solving, communication, and leadership; and maintaining a safe, clean, organized, and professional machining shop, equipment, tool, and classroom environment. The instructor will communicate regularly with the Program Supervisor regarding student progress, curriculum needs, equipment issues, and other matters that may impact program quality or stability. The instructor will work cooperatively within the department and College and participate in meetings, trainings, events, and other activities as requested.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of five years of professional experience as a machinist, CNC machinist, CNC programmer, tool and die maker, or in a closely related manufacturing field. Strong knowledge of manual and/or CNC machining processes, manufacturing equipment, tooling, precision measurement, inspection, and technical drawings is required. Candidates must be organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to communicate technical concepts clearly to individuals with varying levels of experience. A positive attitude, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Mastercam Mill , HAAS CNC equipment or similar CNC systems, CNC programming, blueprint reading, GD&T, precision manufacturing, and CNC troubleshooting is highly desirable. Experience in aerospace, medical device, defense, automotive, or other advanced manufacturing environments is a plus. Experience teaching, training, mentoring, supervising, or coaching employees or students is preferred.
Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Additional technical training, certifications, or education in machining, manufacturing, CNC programming, or a related field is preferred.
Pay:
$35.00 - $45.00 per hour Expected hours: 8.0 - 20.0 per week
