A Machinist builds and repairs precisely detailed and sized metal parts used in a variety of tools and appliances. Builds parts following a blueprint or creates original designs.
We are looking for an experienced Mill Turn Machinist to join the precision manufacturing team in El Cajon. The right candidate brings hands-on experience programming and operating multi-axis mill-turn CNC equipment to produce tight-tolerance components for RF connectors and defense/aerospace applications. You should be comfortable running simultaneous mill-turn operations, optimizing tool paths, and holding precise tolerances on complex parts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, 3D models, and GD&T specifications to understand dimensional requirements before production begins. Program mill-turn operations using CAM software (Mastercam, GibbsCAM, Fusion 360) or directly at the machine control via Fanuc conversational/G-code. Set up, operate, and program multi-axis mill-turn CNC machines including Nakamura, Doosan, Mazak Integrex, DMG MORI NT/NX, and Okuma Multus platforms. Select appropriate tooling and fixturing to support multi-operation machining within a single setup, maintaining tight tolerances and surface finishes on concentric and symmetric features. Work with a range of metals and aerospace-grade materials including high-strength alloys, stainless steel, and other exotic materials. Conduct in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gages, and CMMs to verify dimensional compliance and quality. Maintain detailed setup sheets, tooling lists, and production records to support repeatability and knowledge transfer. Troubleshoot machine and program-related issues; ensure equipment is properly maintained and calibrated for consistent performance. Collaborate with engineers and production staff to refine machining strategies and improve overall part flow. Adhere to all quality control standards and maintain a clean, organized, 6S-compliant work area following established safety procedures. Support continuous improvement initiatives, lean efforts, and cross-training as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required; CNC machining/programming certification preferred. 6+ years in precision machining with at least 3 years operating and programming mill-turn equipment. Strong CNC programming skills (G-code and conversational) with hands-on CAM software experience for multi-axis operations. Solid understanding of multi-axis tool paths, work offsets, sub-spindles, live tooling, and GD&T. Experience working with aerospace-grade materials including stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, and similar alloys. Proficient with precision inspection tools including micrometers, calipers, and CMMs. Strong troubleshooting ability with a focus on cycle time optimization and delivering defect-free parts. Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or within a team under production deadlines. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.
