Machinist III- Graveyard

Production Supervisor/Manager

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The Machinist III must be capable of setting up and machining parts using fixtures and/or CNC machining centers by following the written directions provided as part of the job. At times, may work with a Molding Technician to increase the throughput on the equipment. The person in this role may be responsible to direct the activities of the Molding Technician and ensure that they are following the job requirements. A Machinist III will also be able to run any job in the department including first article production runs. This job involves machining parts per specification by setting up and operating CNC equipment and beginning to develop programs for CNC equipment with Senior Machinist oversight. The Machinist III is responsible for the quality of the product by performing both in-process and final part inspections, care, and maintenance of the equipment, assuring tooling and materials readiness, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. MAJOR DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Read and follow material specifications, process specifications, work orders that support manufacturing and ensure quality Read and interpret design drawings and CAD models Generate tool path programming for 3 & 5-axis machining using CAD/CAM software Perform set-up and fixturing of raw stock and execute CNC machining of parts from composite materials Responsible for maintaining calibration and maintenance schedules of equipment in the Machine Shop Responsible for cutting tool selection and maintenance Performs intermediate-level machining of parts and tools Sets up and operates all available machine tools and performs progressive machining operations on work involving close tolerances. Understands qualities of metals and alloys and applies that knowledge to parts being machined Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using standard measuring tools Understands and comprehends all forms of technical documents including blueprints and drawings, written specifications, charts, tables, etc. Skillfully uses all machinist hand tools and measuring instruments Maintains a track record of high-quality work with low rework and scrap history Maintains high efficiencies and run rates for given machine Responsible for the completeness and accuracy of all work Works safely and as part of a high performing team Mentor junior machinists Perform other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent Minimum of 7 years related experience, training, licenses/certification or demonstrated ability to perform described position responsibilities. Candidate must have 5 plus years on 3 Axis VMC or HMC CNC machines. 5 plus years experience on 4 and 5 Axis VMC and HMC CNC machines a plus Fundamental understanding of GD&T Works independently, follows instructions, and demonstrates strong attention to detail Properly uses basic measuring tools (calipers, micrometer, indicators, etc.) Mechanically inclined, with good manual dexterity Team player with a can-do attitude Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions for machine operation Must be able to communicate clearly (written and verbally) in English Able to work and communicate as a team Maintain work areas in a neat, orderly, and safe manner Ability to read and interpret production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications Ability to read and interpret blueprints Experience in following written set-up instructions and /or performing unique set-ups Demonstrated ability to resolve unforeseen, unique issues as they arise. Experience in complex measurements and advanced shop math calculations relative to tolerances, dimensions, tooling, feeds, and speeds Experience fabricating component parts where set-ups are non-routine and tolerances are difficult to acquire and maintain

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Excellent attendance; ability to work overtime, weekends, and off shifts when needed Able to work in a standing position for extended time periods Able to lift or move up to 50 lbs.; pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs.
