The Prototype Machinist I plays a critical role in the development and fabrication of prototype components and assemblies that support engineering and product development teams. This position involves interpreting engineering drawings and specifications to produce precision parts using various machining tools and techniques. The successful candidate will contribute to the iterative design process by creating accurate prototypes that meet stringent quality and dimensional standards. Collaboration with engineers and designers is essential to refine prototypes and troubleshoot manufacturing challenges. Ultimately, this role ensures that prototype parts are delivered on time and to specification, enabling the advancement of innovative products and solutions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate manual and CNC machine tools such as mills, lathes, and grinders to fabricate prototype parts. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine machining requirements. Set up machines, select appropriate tooling, and adjust machine controls to achieve precise dimensions and finishes. Perform quality inspections on machined parts using measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Collaborate with engineers and designers to discuss prototype requirements, provide feedback, and suggest improvements. Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and company policies. Document machining processes, times, and materials used to support continuous improvement and traceability. Maintain good attendance and punctuality. Maintain a positive and respectful attitude; cooperate with co-workers, management, internal and external customers, etc. Execute daily process improvement using lean manufacturing methodologies. Maintain work area by the use of 6S principles Work safely at all times and report any unsafe conditions or injuries to your supervisor or manager immediately Other duties, as assigned.
