Job Description

The primary function of an RMS Manual Machinist - VTL is to perform a variety of machining operations— specifically the set up and operation of the large VTL (up to 120" swing) on rotating equipment components such as pumps, turbines, and compressors. The Manual Machinist will also set up and operate conventional machining equipment, including lathes and milling machines, to produce, modify, and repair mechanical components. This role requires the ability to read and interpret blueprints, use precision measuring instruments, and maintain strict tolerances while supporting overall shop productivity and quality objectives.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Operate large and small Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL) up to 120" swing and approximately 120" under rail. Operate other manual machining equipment such as engine lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders to produce or repair precision parts Interpret and work from blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements Set up machines by selecting proper tooling, fixtures, and materials for each job Measure and verify dimensions of finished parts using precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.) to ensure tolerances are metPerform machining operations including turning, boring, threading, facing, drilling, and milling. Perform machining operations including turning, boring, threading, facing, drilling, and milling Maintain tight tolerances and ensure high-quality workmanship on all components Inspect incoming and completed parts for defects, wear, and compliance with specifications Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines and equipment to ensure safe operation Troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments to improve accuracy and efficiency Follow all safety procedures, policies, and PPE requirements Document work performed, measurements, and any deviations from specifications Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other shop personnel to resolve technical or production issues Assist with disassembly, repair, and reassembly of mechanical components when required Maintain an organized and clean work area in accordance with shop standards

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS A
minimum of five to ten years of experience as a Manual Machinist is required
REQUIRED EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The position may be based in RMS's Pasadena, TX facility. This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings or weekends may be required based on company and project needs. This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check. Ability to act professionally under stressful situations. Able to understand, read, write and speak English. Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.(with assistance), walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance. Must be able to use hands for assembling and tool usage While performing the duties of this position the employee will be required to stand, sit, bend, and walk for significant portions of the shift Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals, including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel. Authorized to work in the United States Must possess a valid driver's license. Ability to pass pre-employment drug, alcohol screening and background check. RMS Inc. may have government contracts that impose specific requirements on employees working on those projects. If an employee does not meet these requirements, they may be reassigned to a different location or be ineligible to work on certain assignments.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. While the work area may be described as generally clean, safe, and "not loud", there will be machining operations that generate moderate noise and metal particles.
