Position Summary In this capacity, you will be tasked with the setup, verification, and execution of sophisticated CNC programs utilizing multi-axis machining centers. This role demands a high level of technical proficiency, requiring you to apply your expertise in machining strategies, process control, workholding, and tooling. You will be responsible for managing the full lifecycle of setups from initial preparation through to first article completion, focusing on both prototype and production aerospace structural parts. This position is designed for an experienced professional who can exercise sound judgment and meticulous attention to detail rather than a simple machine operator. Core Duties Configure and manage 5-axis CNC machining centers, such as Okuma, OKK, Makino, Kitamura, or comparable systems. Utilize CNC programs, tooling documentation, and setup instructions to facilitate streamlined production setups. Prepare and validate fixtures, tooling, and various workholding solutions for intricate part geometries. Execute first article verification by applying necessary program tweaks and offsets to ensure accuracy. Help maintain high quality standards by producing parts that strictly adhere to print specifications and surface finish requirements. Collaborate with programming and engineering teams to address and resolve technical challenges during the production cycle. Verify component quality by utilizing standard measurement equipment like micrometers, calipers, and height gauges. Help optimize shop output by balancing setup speed with the need for consistent, repeatable quality. Identify and resolve machining complications, such as dimensional drift, chatter, or premature tool wear. Support a safe and efficient shop floor by keeping your workspace orderly and adhering to all established operational protocols. Required Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of professional CNC machining experience, with a focus on 5-axis setup tasks. Demonstrated capacity to autonomously manage the setup and production of complex components. Comprehensive knowledge of multi-axis toolpaths and advanced machining methodologies. Background in manufacturing high-precision aerospace parts with stringent tolerance requirements. Proficiency in analyzing and applying GD&T and complex engineering blueprints. Strong analytical mindset and a dedication to precision in every task. Preferred Qualifications Background in the production of large-scale aerostructural components. Familiarity with high-end machinery brands including Makino, OKK, Okuma, Kitamura, or similar platforms. Experience working with a variety of materials, ranging from aluminum to difficult-to-machine alloys like Inconel and stainless steel. Technical Experience Custom and modular fixturing techniques. Multi-part and tombstone setup configurations. Utilization of vacuum-based fixturing for thin-walled aluminum components. Application of mechanical and hydraulic clamping systems. High-performance toolholding, including hydraulic and shrink-fit systems. Advanced cutting strategies, including dynamic toolpaths and high-feed milling. Working knowledge of AS9100 standards or similar aerospace manufacturing environments.
