2 months ago Description SkillsetGroup is seeking a Conventional Machinist to work in the Santa Fe Springs, CA area. The Conventional Machinist will work in an R D machine shop environment machining, welding, fabricating, and assembling prototype liftgate components and units. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of manual mill and lathe experience, along with a minimum of 3 years of MIG welding experience on aluminum and steel. This is a Temp-to-Hire opportunity on 1st shift.

Shift Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate conventional manual mills and lathes.
  • Machine, fabricate, weld, and assemble prototype parts and liftgate components.
  • Produce components from engineering drawings, sketches, schematics, or verbal instructions.
  • Perform MIG welding on aluminum and steel.
  • Operate sit-down forklifts, torch cutters and welders, plasma cutters, drill presses, band saws, grinders, and hand tools.
  • Handle heavy equipment and materials safely.
  • Assist with prototype assembly, modification, and testing.
  • Follow machining specifications, welding standards, and workplace safety procedures.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of machining experience using manual mills and lathes.
  • Minimum 3 years of MIG welding experience on aluminum and steel.
  • Combined professional experience as both a machinist and welder required.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and welding specifications.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Certified machinist preferred; proof of technical training is required when applicable.
  • Certified welder preferred.
  • Hydraulics, liftgate, or truck mechanic experience is a plus.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong safety awareness.
  • Steel-toe shoes and personal hand tools required on day one.
