CNC Lathe Machinist Job Description This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC lathes to produce high-quality machined components, performing precise quality inspections, and making necessary tooling and offset adjustments. You will work in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment producing primarily surgical instruments and other medical device components. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC lathes in accordance with engineering blueprints and work instructions. Read and interpret blueprints to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances. Perform 2-5 machine setups per day, ensuring efficient changeover between jobs. Conduct quality inspections on machined components using micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify dimensional accuracy. Make tool changes and adjust tool offsets as needed to maintain part quality and meet specifications. Monitor CNC lathe operations and make necessary adjustments to optimize performance and minimize downtime. Maintain a clean and organized work area in alignment with company and industry standards. Follow procedures consistent with an ISO-certified manufacturing environment, particularly for automotive, medical, or aerospace applications. Collaborate with the machining team and leadership to support continuous improvement in processes and productivity. Essential Skills Minimum 3 years of experience setting up and operating CNC lathes. Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately. Hands-on experience with CNC lathe setup, including tooling selection and fixture setup. Proficiency in performing tool changes and adjusting offsets on CNC lathes. Strong skills using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Experience working in an ISO-certified manufacturing environment, preferably automotive, medical, or aerospace. Solid understanding of machining principles and lathe operations. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precision components. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with 5-axis machining is preferred but not required. Experience in medical device, automotive, or aerospace manufacturing is a plus. Familiarity with milling operations is beneficial. Interest in advancing into lead, programming, or engineering positions over time. Ability to work effectively in a clean, climate-controlled production environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a medical device manufacturing facility that primarily produces surgical instruments. The environment is extremely clean and climate controlled, reflecting the precision and quality standards of the industry. The operation runs turning on first shift, Monday through Thursday, on a 4x10 schedule from 4:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A second shift is available with a 15% premium, though this premium does not apply during the contract period. The facility employs approximately 100 people, fostering a close-knit, collaborative atmosphere. Machinists report to the machining manager and are allowed to wear one headphone to listen to music while working, contributing to a comfortable and focused dress and work style. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kenosha, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
