Job Title:

CNC MachinistJob Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC lathes to produce precision aerospace components, with additional responsibilities supporting CNC mills and select manual equipment. You ensure parts meet strict engineering and print tolerances by making accurate offset adjustments, maintaining proper cutting conditions, and using precision measuring tools. You contribute to a high-performing production environment by meeting output goals, completing certified operator training, and collaborating closely with team members and supervisors.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC lathes as the primary responsibility to support aerospace manufacturing.

Provide backup operation of CNC mills and manual machining equipment as production needs require.

Set up and run multiple machines and operations simultaneously to produce precision parts within specified print tolerances.

Make accurate offset adjustments to maintain engineering specifications and ensure dimensional accuracy.

Complete Certified Operator training and testing to maintain required qualifications and competency.

Maintain measuring instruments and machining equipment in proper working condition through routine care and basic maintenance.

Maintain proper cutting conditions on machining centers to optimize tool life, part quality, and productivity.

Meet or exceed required production and output hours while maintaining high quality standards.

Use fixtures, gauges, and precision measuring equipment to perform detailed dimensional checks on parts.

Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to set up and run jobs correctly.

Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors to coordinate work activities, resolve issues, and support production flow.

Operate and adjust single-turret or twin-spindle CNC lathes with live tooling as needed.

Use hand and power tools, rotary tooling, sanding devices, manual deburring tools, and wrenches to complete machining and finishing tasks.

Perform basic data entry, timekeeping, and production reporting using computer systems.

Perform other duties as assigned and work overtime as needed to support production schedules.

Essential Skills

Minimum 3+ years of experience setting up, troubleshooting, and operating CNC lathes and mills.

Hands-on CNC setup experience, particularly with CNC lathes equipped with live tooling.

Experience operating single-turret or twin-spindle CNC lathes with live tooling.

Ability to set up, troubleshoot, and operate CNC lathes and CNC mills independently.

Proficiency with precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, electronic height gauges, and fixed gauges.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and detailed work instructions.

Intermediate shop math skills to perform measurements, conversions, and basic calculations.

Basic computer skills for data entry, timekeeping, and production reporting.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with co-workers and supervisors.

Team-oriented mindset with a focus on collaboration and supporting shared goals.

Safety-conscious approach to working in a machine shop environment, including proper use of tools and equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience using hand and power tools, rotary tooling, sanding devices, manual deburring tools, and wrenches.

Ability to maintain measuring instruments and machining equipment in proper condition through routine cleaning and care.

Capability to manage multiple machines and operations simultaneously while maintaining quality.

Comfort working with fixtures, gauges, and precision measuring equipment for detailed dimensional checks.

Willingness to complete Certified Operator training and testing as part of ongoing development.

Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned and to work overtime when required to support production demands.

Work Environment

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Colorado Springs, CO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.35 - $27.35/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
