POSITION SUMMARY
At Titan Advanced Manufacturing, the CNC Machinist III is an advanced, highly skilled tradesperson responsible for full program-to-production ownership. This role performs CNC programming, complex setups, precision machining, troubleshooting, and quality verification for advanced manufacturing projects. The Machinist independently executes work across multiple machine types and operations, blending the responsibilities of Programmer, Setup Technician, and Operator. This position also mentors junior machinists and contributes to continuous improvement, tool selection, and process optimization.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Programming and Process Development:
Create, edit, validate, and optimize CNC programs and machining strategies.
Advanced Setup and Tooling:
Independently complete complex setups, select tooling, establish offsets, and validate processes.
Precision Machining and Quality:
Produce and inspect close-tolerance components while correcting process issues in real time.
Troubleshooting and Improvement:
Diagnose equipment and process problems and improve cycle time, quality, tooling, and utilization.
Mentorship and Compliance:
Develop junior machinists while upholding Titan safety, AS9100, and ITAR requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Programming and Process Development Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs for lathes, mills, and multi-axis equipment, as applicable. Select tools, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies to maximize efficiency, quality, and tool life. Interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD/CAM files, models, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Work with Engineering to validate manufacturability and propose design improvements. Advanced Setup and Tooling Perform complete, independent machine setups, including fixtures, tooling, offsets, probing, and validation. Design or recommend custom fixtures, workholding methods, and tooling improvements. Troubleshoot mechanical, control, and process problems to maintain optimal performance. Machining and Production Execution Operate CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and other equipment to produce precision components. Adjust machine controls to correct errors or out-of-tolerance conditions. Identify, diagnose, and correct machining problems in real time. Inspection and Quality Control Inspect components using advanced metrology tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pins, bore gauges, surface-finish tools, a coordinate measuring machine (CMM), if applicable, and an optical comparator. Verify tolerance requirements using GD&T standards and AS9100-driven work instructions. Document inspection results and support nonconformance report (NCR) investigations. Mentorship and Continuous Improvement Mentor less experienced machinists in setup, measurement, and machining fundamentals. Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to cycle time, scrap reduction, tooling improvements, and machine utilization. Recommend process improvements, updated tooling packages, and efficiency enhancements. Safety and Compliance Maintain strict adherence to Titan safety standards, AS9100 procedures, and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Perform other duties as assigned to support high-mix, precision manufacturing workloads.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 2-5 years of experience as a fully qualified machinist, depending on demonstrated skill depth. Proficiency in CNC programming using conversational controls, G-code, or CAM software. Strong understanding of machining theory, metal-cutting principles, tool geometry, and machine dynamics. Ability to read and interpret advanced engineering drawings, documentation, and models. Demonstrated success operating and setting up multiple machine types. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with Production and Engineering teams. Team-oriented approach that measures success by total output, not only individual performance. Ability to work independently, prioritize workloads, and meet tight deadlines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree in manufacturing or machining technology, completion of a full apprenticeship, or equivalent experience. Experience with multi-axis machining and advanced CAD/CAM programming. Experience working in an AS9100-regulated aerospace, energy, or precision industrial manufacturing environment.
CORE COMPETENCIES CNC
