Electrical Machine Builder / Machine Tool Technician Job Description This role focuses on building and repairing large industrial machinery with a strong emphasis on electrical work. You will work on both new machine builds and equipment returned to the shop for repair, handling electrical wiring from low voltage up to 480V. The position requires proficiency in reading electrical schematics, wiring panels and junction boxes, running conduit, and troubleshooting complex electrical issues on large-scale equipment. Responsibilities Build and repair large industrial equipment with a primary focus on electrical systems. Troubleshoot electrical issues on machines that have been returned to the shop to accurately identify root causes and required repairs. Rewire and wire machines based on detailed electrical schematics and documentation. Read and interpret electrical schematics proficiently to build control panels, wire junction boxes, and run conduit. Construct and assemble electrical panels, ensuring proper layout, wiring, and connections for machine operation. Wire junction boxes and route conduit according to schematics and bills of materials for both new builds and repairs. Build machines from the ground up, wiring the electrical components in accordance with client specifications and engineering requirements. Work with electrical systems ranging from low voltage up to 480V in a safe and compliant manner. Collaborate with team members on the shop floor to complete projects efficiently and meet production and repair timelines. Maintain a high level of attendance, reliability, and willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and technologies as needed. Essential Skills At least 4 years of electrical experience in an industrial or machine-building environment, with a focus on wiring and troubleshooting rather than mechanical assembly. Proven ability to wire electrical panels and junction boxes accurately and efficiently. Demonstrated experience running conduit for industrial machinery and equipment. Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve electrical issues on complex machines. Minimum of 1 year of experience working on large-scale equipment in a shop or field environment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and bills of materials. Hands-on experience as an electrical technician or machine tool electrician. Ability to work safely with electrical systems from low voltage up to 480V. Solid understanding of industrial electrical wiring practices and standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in panel building, including layout, wiring, and testing of electrical control panels. Background in field service or servicing machine tools and industrial equipment. Familiarity with electronics and electrical components used in machine tools. Comfort working as an electrical technician or machine tool electrician in a shop-floor setting. Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with other technicians. Work Environment This position is based on a shop floor environment focused on building and repairing large industrial machines. You will work primarily on first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays as needed to meet project demands. The atmosphere is team-oriented and hands-on, where technicians collaborate closely and are encouraged to roll up their sleeves to get the job done. You will work around heavy equipment and electrical systems up to 480V, following appropriate safety practices and procedures in a busy, production-focused setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ann Arbor, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
