Job Description
Job Overview The Senior CNC Machinist is the technical leader of the CNC machining area and is responsible for programming support, machine setup, operation, process optimization, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of Mazak CNC machining centers. This position ensures that machined components meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and production schedules while maximizing machine utilization, reducing setup times, minimizing scrap, and supporting new product development. The Senior CNC Machinist also serves as a mentor to other machinists and operators, promoting technical excellence, standardization, and safe manufacturing practices. Duties Read, interpret, and edit Mazatrol and G-Code programs as required. Collaborate with Engineering to optimize machining strategies and validate new programs. Support verification of CAM-generated programs. Set up and operate Mazak CNC machining centers. Verify machine readiness before production. Install and align fixtures, vises, tooling, and workholding devices. Load, verify, and optimize machining programs. Perform first-piece inspections and approve production startup. Monitor machining operations and adjust tool offsets as necessary. Maintain dimensional accuracy throughout production runs. Optimize cutting parameters to improve cycle times, tool life, and machining efficiency. Machine complex, high-precision components to engineering specifications. Serve as the technical resource for CNC machining operations. Train, coach, and mentor CNC operators and junior machinists. Develop standardized setup procedures, work instructions, and setup documentation. Support cross-training initiatives within the machining department. Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements. Verify dimensional compliance using precision measuring instruments. Investigate and resolve dimensional and machining-related issues. Ensure compliance with ISO standards, quality procedures, and safety requirements. Complete accurate production and inspection documentation. Recommend continuous improvements in machining processes, tooling, and manufacturing methods. Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Technical degree in Machining Technology preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of CNC machining experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with Mazak machining centers.
- Proven experience setting up complex machining jobs independently.
- Experience mentoring other machinists preferred.
