Pay Range:
$22.00/hour We are seeking an experienced CNC Tool Maker to join our team in an onsite prototype and tool room environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with manual milling, CNC machining, CNC programming, tooling, prototype fabrication, and precision measurement. This position will be responsible for producing engineered prototype parts, precision tools, fixtures, jigs, molds, dies, and other specialized components. The successful candidate should be comfortable working independently, reading engineering drawings, operating manual and CNC equipment, and collaborating closely with engineers and production teams.
Responsibilities:
Perform day-to-day tool room and prototype machining operations. Operate and set up manual mills and CNC milling machines. Program and operate CNC equipment using G-Code and/or CAM software. Manufacture prototype parts, precision tools, fixtures, jigs, dies, molds, guides, and holding devices. Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, specifications, and models. Determine machining processes, tooling, speeds, feeds, and materials based on project requirements. Select and install appropriate cutters, drills, tooling, and machine accessories. Measure and inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, gauge blocks , and other precision measuring equipment. Verify that completed parts meet dimensional and quality specifications. Use hand tools and machine tools to assemble, modify, repair, and finish tooling and components. Design and fabricate templates, fixtures, and jigs used in manufacturing. Diagnose and troubleshoot tooling, machining, and equipment issues. Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on shop and support equipment. Work closely with engineers to develop and produce prototype components. Communicate with internal teams and suppliers to resolve technical and production-related issues. Select appropriate metals and other materials based on machining, heat treating, welding, wear, and polishing requirements. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area. Follow company safety procedures, quality standards, and work instructions.
Required Qualifications:
2-3+ years of hands-on machining experience; additional experience preferred. Strong experience with manual milling. Experience operating and setting up CNC mills. Experience with CNC programming using G-Code and/or CAM software. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering/tool drawings. Hands-on experience with tooling, fixtures, prototypes, dies, molds, or similar precision components. Strong knowledge of machining tools, cutters, speeds, and feeds. Experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers. Ability to manually move, set up, and operate machining equipment. Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with engineers and production teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machining. Experience with Hurco machining centers. Experience with Mitsubishi Wire EDM. Experience with Amada turret punch presses and/or Amada brake presses. Experience with Solid Works, Mastercam, or other CAD/CAM software. Experience with
CNC EDM, CNC
lathes, or other tool room equipment. Formal vocational or technical training in machining, tool making, or a related field. Experience in prototype, tooling, mold-building, or tool-and-die environments. (LH-R3) #IND2
