We are looking for professionals who excel at managing their own setups, refining programs, and operating a variety of turning machinery. Our team thrives in a climate-controlled, 150,000-square-foot facility equipped with modern technology, offering competitive wages, a 10% shift premium, and stable opportunities for 10+ hours of weekly overtime. Role Overview As a CNC Lathe Setup Machinist, you will be responsible for preparing and operating turning equipment to manufacture high-precision parts for the defense and aerospace markets. You will be expected to operate with autonomy, utilizing technical prints and instructions to execute setups, validate parts, perform necessary modifications, and conduct thorough inspections during the production cycle. Key Duties Configure and manage CNC lathes and turning centers to support both production and repeat manufacturing tasks. Analyze technical drawings, job travelers, and production guides to identify specific machining needs. Utilize GD&T principles and dimensional specifications to ensure part accuracy. Organize and mount tooling, inserts, fixtures, and workholding components to streamline production. Configure machine settings, including tool and work offsets, to ensure operational readiness for every job. Execute initial part runs and verify features to help ensure consistent quality standards for the entire production team. Execute various turning processes such as drilling, threading, grooving, boring, and facing. Verify component quality throughout the production cycle by utilizing calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools. Modify offsets and perform minor program adjustments to help maintain superior surface finishes and dimensional integrity. Troubleshoot and resolve common machining challenges related to tooling, dimensions, or equipment performance. Track tool wear and manage the replacement or adjustment of cutting inserts as needed. Maintain precise records for all production and inspection activities. Conduct fundamental machine upkeep and routine maintenance tasks. Collaborate with engineering, quality, and programming teams to help improve overall setup efficiency and resolve technical issues. Adhere to safety and quality protocols to help maintain a clean and organized work environment for all staff. Required Skills and Experience Demonstrated background in CNC lathe setup and operation within a precision machining setting. Proven ability to manage independent machine setups and oversee jobs from initiation to completion. Comprehensive understanding of blueprint interpretation and GD&T standards. Hands-on experience with adjusting offsets and modifying CNC programs directly at the controller. Proficiency in utilizing a variety of precision inspection and measurement tools. Familiarity with diverse CNC machine brands and control systems is highly advantageous. Background in close-tolerance manufacturing for the defense or aerospace industries is preferred. Must be a lawful permanent resident or U.S. citizen to comply with ITAR regulations for defense-related projects. Core Competencies
