Job Description

CNC Lathe Machinist -
Aerospace Precision Machining Location:
Elk Grove Village, IL Job Type:
Full-Time Role Summary We are currently scouting for a skilled CNC Lathe Machinist to join our established precision manufacturing firm. Our facility focuses on creating intricate, high-tolerance parts for sectors such as aerospace, defense, medical, and semiconductor manufacturing. This role is perfect for a machinist eager to move beyond simple 2-axis turning and tackle complex multi-axis projects. We are looking for someone with robust CNC lathe setup expertise who feels confident managing sophisticated components using live tooling and advanced mill/turn machinery. With over four decades of industry presence, our company remains dedicated to upgrading our technology and manufacturing capabilities. You will operate within a pristine, well-maintained environment that prioritizes high-end precision work and sophisticated equipment. If you thrive on intricate setups, demanding materials, and tight tolerances that require genuine technical expertise, our facility offers the ideal setting to advance your professional craft. Why You Should Join Us Engage with complex, aerospace-grade components rather than basic, repetitive production tasks. Become part of a long-standing manufacturer with over 40 years of expertise in precision machining. Operate in a spacious, clean, and well-maintained facility that prioritizes investment in modern machinery. Expand your technical knowledge through exposure to 5-axis machining, mill/turn technology, EDM, grinding, and other advanced processes. Contribute to the production of components for critical applications in space, defense, aerospace, and medical fields. Collaborate with a skilled team of programmers, manufacturing engineers, quality experts, and fellow machinists. Support a business that consistently invests in automation, new technology, and enhanced machining capabilities. Benefit from professional growth opportunities as you master increasingly complex parts and cutting-edge CNC equipment. Core Responsibilities Manage the setup and operation of multi-axis turning centers to produce intricate precision parts. Execute comprehensive machine setups, including fixture design, workholding, tooling, and part alignment. Operate CNC turning equipment that leverages multi-axis capabilities and live tooling to improve production efficiency. Produce complex aerospace components that demand multiple operations and strict dimensional adherence. Analyze and interpret manufacturing specifications, engineering blueprints, and GD&T requirements. Determine the optimal cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and inserts based on material properties and part geometry to ensure high-quality outcomes. Adjust tool offsets and wear parameters to help maintain consistent dimensional accuracy throughout the production run. Resolve machining challenges related to chatter, surface finish, tool performance, and dimensional variations to ensure stable operations. Conduct first-piece and in-process inspections using height gauges, micrometers, calipers, and other precision tools to verify quality. Ensure all parts meet customer, aerospace, and print quality standards to maintain our reputation for excellence. Machine challenging, aerospace-grade materials such as nickel-based alloys, titanium, stainless steel, and aluminum. Oversee tooling condition and perform necessary adjustments or replacements to support continuous productivity. Partner with quality personnel, programmers, and engineers to overcome manufacturing hurdles and optimize processes. Document all necessary production and inspection data to ensure full traceability. Uphold a safe, organized, and clean workspace to promote a productive environment for the entire team. Qualifications At least 3 years of experience in CNC lathe machining and setup. Proven ability to perform full setups on CNC turning centers rather than just operating pre-set machines. Experience with multi-axis CNC turning is highly preferred. Proficiency with advanced turning technology, including Y-axis machining, sub-spindles, and mill/turn setups. Background in tight-tolerance precision machining for industries like medical, defense, or aerospace. Solid understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation. Ability to independently manage setups, establish offsets, and troubleshoot complex machining processes. Competence in using precision inspection tools such as indicators, bore gauges, micrometers, and calipers. Experience working with specialty or difficult-to-machine metals. Strong mechanical aptitude combined with effective problem-solving abilities. Demonstrated ability to maintain high quality while meeting strict tolerance requirements. Our Manufacturing Environment Our facility is not a standard production shop. We focus on high-precision assemblies and components for industries where accuracy is non-negotiable. We utilize a wide range of advanced equipment, including 5-axis milling, multi-axis turning, grinding, and EDM, and we continue to invest in technology that allows us to handle increasingly sophisticated projects. For a dedicated CNC Lathe Machinist, this is a chance to work on challenging setups and critical aerospace parts using state-of-the-art machinery. Compensation and Benefits Comprehensive medical coverage. Dental and vision insurance plans. 401(k) retirement savings program. Paid time off benefits. Tuition assistance for further education. Access to ongoing training and professional development. Clear pathways for career advancement. A stable, long-term environment focused on precision manufacturing. We are searching for a CNC Lathe Machinist who takes genuine pride in their work and seeks a role where technical precision and problem-solving are highly valued.
