CNC Swiss Machinist Job Description Join a precision CNC machine shop as a CNC Swiss Machinist working in a high-volume production environment with Star CNC Swiss SR-32J machines and Cincinnati centerless grinders. You will operate CNC Swiss lathes and grinding equipment, perform deburring, and inspect parts using blueprints, micrometers, and calipers to ensure tight tolerances and high-quality output. This role offers structured training on machine operation, part inspection, and working closely with a lead machinist to run parts efficiently and accurately. Responsibilities Operate CNC Swiss lathes, including Star CNC Swiss SR-32J machines, to produce precision parts according to engineering blueprints. Operate Cincinnati centerless grinding machines to finish parts to required specifications. Perform deburring on machined components to remove sharp edges and ensure clean, finished parts. Work alongside a lead machinist to run parts through the machines, following established production processes and instructions. Set up and perform changeovers on CNC equipment as needed to accommodate different jobs and part runs. Use blueprints to interpret dimensions, tolerances, and specifications for each job. Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, and other inspection equipment to verify dimensions and ensure accuracy based on blueprints. Monitor machine performance during production runs and make minor adjustments to maintain quality and consistency. Apply knowledge of G&M codes on Fanuc controllers when setting up or adjusting CNC programs, where applicable. Handle and move materials and parts safely, including lifting items up to 20 pounds as part of daily tasks. Maintain a clean and organized work area in the production department, following shop safety and housekeeping standards. Collaborate with team members and leads to meet production goals and support continuous improvement in machining processes. Essential Skills 2 years of experience working as a machinist or in a machine shop setting. 12 years of CNC experience, preferably operating CNC lathes or similar equipment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints to understand part dimensions and tolerances. Proficiency using micrometers and calipers for part inspection and quality verification. Experience with changeovers and setups on CNC machines. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds as part of daily production activities. Basic understanding of CNC machining processes, including operation of production equipment. Familiarity with inspection equipment and standard shop measurement tools. Additional Skills & Qualifications 13 years of CNC Swiss machining experience, ideally in a job shop environment. Experience operating Star CNC Swiss machines. Experience with G&M codes on Fanuc controllers for CNC machine setup and operation. Job shop experience working with calipers, blueprints, and micrometers across a variety of parts and materials. 6 months3 years of CNC lathe experience for candidates still building Swiss-specific skills. Deburring and grinding experience, including use of centerless grinders. Work Environment The role is based in a precision CNC machine shop located in an industrial setting, focused on producing custom, tight-tolerance parts for industries such as aerospace, agricultural equipment, appliances, archery, automotive, construction equipment, fasteners, and oil-related applications. The shop currently operates 18 Star CNC Swiss SR-32J machines and 6 Cincinnati centerless grinders, with continued investment in additional CNC Star Swiss machines. You will work on a first shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with regular overtime on Saturdays, typically totaling 5060 hours per week. The environment is production-oriented and hands-on, involving frequent use of CNC machines, grinding equipment, and inspection tools such as micrometers and calipers. Standard machine shop attire and appropriate safety gear are expected, and the facility emphasizes safe work practices, organized workstations, and consistent, high-quality output. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hodgkins, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
