A Machinist builds and repairs precisely detailed and sized metal parts used in a variety of tools and appliances. Builds parts following a blueprint or creates original designs.
Position Summary As a Machine & Automation Builder / Build Engineer, you will be responsible the hands-on mechanical and electrical assembly of custom, turnkey automation systems and robotic conveyor cells. You represent the critical final stage of our build lifecycle—turning engineering designs into fully integrated machinery, executing in-house debugging/Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), and completing on-site customer installations and final buyoffs.
Assemble custom automation systems, robotic cells, and conveyor loops according to detailed mechanical layouts, pneumatic schematics, and electrical drawings.
Machining & Fabrication:
Safely and proficiently operate shop tools—including manual mills, lathes, drill presses, band saws, and deburring tools—to modify, fabricate, and fit components on the floor.
Quality & Continuous Improvement:
Execute build tasks under ISO quality standards, actively identifying design defects, documenting engineering changes, and communicating adjustments with the Lead Engineer. Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT): Support pre-shipment process, wiring checks, and dry-cycle testing to ensure systems meet timing, quality, and cost benchmarks.
Shipping, Staging & Parts Support:
Stage, pack, and prepare completed machines for transit, assisting with spare parts fulfillment as needed.
Field Installation & SAT:
Travel to customer facilities to lead or support mechanical rigging, line integration, and final Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
Qualifications & Experience Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational trade certification, technical apprenticeship, or Mechatronics/Electro-Mechanical associate degree strongly preferred.
Technical Experience:
2+ years of hands-on experience in machine building, mechanical assembly, or industrial automation maintenance.
Blueprint Reading:
Intermediate-to-advanced proficiency in interpreting mechanical assembly prints, part detail drawings, pneumatic diagrams, and electrical schematics.
Controls Aptitude:
Ability to read basic electrical I/O and support simple PLC logic troubleshooting is a strong advantage.
Computer Literacy:
Basic proficiency with standard PC software for logging issues, tracking project time, and reviewing digital documentation.
Work Environment & Physical Demands Physical Requirements:
Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs unassisted; steady stamina to bend, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and maneuver in and around industrial automation machinery.
Travel:
Ability to travel to customer facilities and international partner sites up to 50% as project demand requires (historical travel over recent years typically averages under 20%).
