Job Description

Job Title:
ID/OD Grinder Job Description This role focuses on setting up and operating Studer ID/OD grinding machines to produce precision components to very tight tolerances. You will perform high-accuracy grinding operations, interpret technical documentation, and use precision inspection tools to ensure all parts meet exacting quality standards, particularly for demanding applications such as aerospace. Responsibilities Set up and operate Studer ID and OD grinding machines, including models such as S33, S41, and S31. Perform precision ID and OD grinding on a variety of materials to tight tolerances, including work for aerospace and other high-specification applications. Configure and operate centerless, cylindrical, and manual grinding machines as needed to support production requirements. Adjust and monitor coolant flow and other machine parameters to maintain optimal grinding conditions and surface finishes. Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T symbols, and detailed work instructions to determine dimensions, tolerances, and process requirements. Use inspection tools such as micrometers, bore gauges, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments to verify part dimensions and quality. Make offsets and minor program adjustments on the machines to maintain accuracy and compensate for tool wear or process variation. Perform routine checks and basic maintenance on machines to ensure reliable operation and consistent quality. Document work as required, including recording measurements, noting adjustments, and communicating issues to the appropriate personnel. Collaborate with team members and leadership to troubleshoot issues, improve processes, and maintain a safe and efficient work area. Essential Skills At least 2 years of hands-on experience with ID/OD grinding, with strong preference for experience on Studer machines (S33, S41, S31, or similar). Proven ability to set up and operate Studer ID/OD grinding machines with minimal supervision. Strong understanding of precision machining principles and working to tight tolerances. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, including GD&T, and follow detailed work instructions. Proficiency using inspection tools such as micrometers, bore gauges, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments. Experience with centerless grinding, cylindrical grinding, and manual grinding machines. Solid basic math skills to perform measurements, conversions, and tolerance calculations. Demonstrated ability to perform machine offsets and minor program adjustments to maintain part quality. Familiarity with machining and metal finishing practices in a high-precision environment, including aerospace-related work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Direct experience with Studer ID and OD grinders, including multiple machine types or models. Experience using a variety of manual machines and metal finishing tools. Willingness to work as a traveler on a defined assignment with the ability to contribute quickly with minimal training. Flexibility to support overtime, weekend shifts, and varying schedules as production needs require. Why Work Here? You will join a precision-focused manufacturing environment that values craftsmanship, accuracy, and continuous improvement. The role offers a shift differential for off-shift work, opportunities for overtime, and the possibility of extended assignments for travelers. You will work with advanced Studer grinding equipment, build in-demand technical skills, and gain experience in high-specification industries such as aerospace. The organization supports structured onboarding, including dedicated training time, to help you integrate smoothly and perform confidently in your role.
