Job Title:
Lead CNC Machinist Job Description The Lead CNC Machinist plays a critical role in producing machined parts by editing, setting up, and operating CNC machines. This position combines hands-on machining expertise with leadership responsibilities, guiding machinists and coordinating workflow to meet production goals while maintaining quality and safety standards. Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of CNC machinists, providing training and technical guidance. Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards. Plan machining operations by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, and machining parameters; interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). Manage stock inventory by checking availability, placing orders, and verifying receipt. Program mills and lathes by entering instructions, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculate requirements using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry. Set up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers. Load feed mechanisms by lifting stock into position. Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces. Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting operations; take measurements; detect malfunctions; troubleshoot processes; adjust and reprogram controls; sharpen and replace worn tools. Ensure safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment by following manufacturer's instructions and troubleshooting malfunctions. Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Complete production and quality logs to document actions. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications. Essential Skills High School Diploma or
GED 5-10
years of experience with CNC programming and setup Proficiency in production and machine operation Expertise in lathe and mill operations Ability to read and interpret blueprints Experience with machining, calipers, and inspection Additional Skills & Qualifications Conceptual skills for process improvement Strong verbal communication abilities Functional and technical skills in controls and instrumentation Supply management and tooling coordination Inventory control and attention to detail Good judgment and decision-making skills Work Environment This position is for the 2nd shift from 2pm to 10:30pm, with 2 hours of overtime per day and availability on Saturdays for 6-8 hours. The work environment includes operating advanced CNC machines and maintaining high standards of safety and quality. We are equipped with a wide range of CNC machines, including AS9100 and FAA Repair 145 certified equipment, providing a comprehensive setting for professional growth. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Schaumburg, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
