Babbitting Service Inc in West Allis, WI seeks a CNC Lathe Machinist to produce precision components for babbitt bearings used in power generation, marine, and heavy industry. You will set up and operate CNC lathes, read blueprints and measuring tools, hold tight tolerances, and inspect finished parts for quality and safety. Work closely with a small, expert team, learning rare high-precision techniques in bearing manufacturing and repair. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and comfortable in a hands-on industrial environment with a strong focus on craftsmanship and reliability. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC lathes to produce precision bearing components Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and technical drawings Use precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances Adjust offsets, tooling, and basic programs to maintain part quality Inspect parts and document results per quality standards Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area Perform basic preventive maintenance on CNC equipment Collaborate with engineers and senior machinists on special or custom jobs Handle material loading, part deburring, and finishing as required Contribute to continuous improvement in machining processes and quality Required Skills CNC lathe setup and operation G-code interpretation and editing Blueprint and technical drawing reading Precision measurement (micrometers, calipers, indicators) Tight tolerance machining Machine offsets and tooling changes Basic CNC programming adjustments Metalworking and machining safety Quality inspection and documentation Routine machine maintenance
