A Machinist builds and repairs precisely detailed and sized metal parts used in a variety of tools and appliances. Builds parts following a blueprint or creates original designs.
Set up, adjust and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations; align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines; monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process. Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders. Operate assigned machinery and equipment in a safe manner. Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Measure, marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers. Performs scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment; install repaired parts; install new equipment; clean and lubricate machines, tools, and materials in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter. Performs housekeeping tasks necessary to maintain a clean and safe work area. Requisitions material and tools required, and inspects them upon receipt for conformance to specifications Responsible for notifying supervisory personnel if a nonconforming condition exist. Performs other duties as directed by management personnel
Required Work Experience and Skills:
Knowledge of materials, tools, and processes required in machining Knowledge of material qualities and properties Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the machining Ability to read and independently work from plans, sketches, diagrams, and blueprints Ability to communicate effectively Knowledge of methods, materials, operations and repairs involved in machining Knowledge of industry regulated safety practices and principles
