Job Title:
Machinist Job Description The Mill Operator with 5 Axis Experience is responsible for setting up and operating the 5 Axis CNC machine in compliance with inch and metric drawing specifications. The role requires a demonstrated ability to read engineered drawings and set up and operate manual mills and lathes. The position involves troubleshooting and performing a complex variety of machining skills. Responsibilities Set up and operate the 5 Axis CNC to machine flat, contoured, and formed parts to inch and metric drawing specifications. Act as a technical resource regarding tooling and machining capabilities. Evaluate and justify new tooling and machining processes. Communicate issues relating to work orders, programming errors, and material shortages or errors. Focus continuously on reducing material, labor, and scrap. Learn, comprehend, and apply manufacturing safety practices. Manage products and processes efficiently. Perform minor maintenance activities as required by the preventive maintenance program. Engage in continued education and training, including ISO 9001, safety, blueprint reading, teamwork, and Statistical Process Control. Maintain cleanliness of the work area. Accurately record labor time for job tracking. Present a professional image in accordance with company appearance standards. Demonstrate good judgment and decision-making skills. Promote safety in accordance with company policy. Mentor and train MachinistI, II, III.
Lead large projects from start to completion. Interact with engineers on the design of parts. Advise on corrective actions that need to be taken. Document red lines. Perform R D work as directed. Other duties as assigned. Essential Skills Demonstrated ability to perform lead person responsibilities effectively, productively, professionally, and positively. Ability to machine various plastics and metals to a .005 tolerance. Proficiency in using rotary table and divider head mill vise. Skill in tooling design and use of inspection tooling to measure and verify dimensions. Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings in metric, decimal, and fractional inch units. Capability to read and interpret Bill of Materials. Experience in setting up manual machines using appropriate tooling and fixtures. Proficiency in operating manual mills and lathes. Troubleshooting skills. Experience in setting up CNC machines, loading programs, tools, fixtures, and setting tool offsets. Ability to use and read precision measuring devices in thousandths. Knowledge of various cutting tools and materials utilized. Capability to perform a complex variety of machining skills. Skills in a minimum of one other discipline (cross-trained). Ability to CNC program. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school degree or equivalent with two to three years' experience or an AA degree in Machine Technology. Good math skills in trigonometry. Ability to work in a team environment and contribute effectively. Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail. Ability to carefully handle fragile products, perform repetitive tasks, and demonstrate safety awareness. Capacity to maintain and inspect functional tooling. Skill in reading and understanding machine codes. Ability to deburr parts. Capability to lift and carry products weighing up to 35 pounds. Why Work Here? Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tigard, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
