Full Job Description General Summary :
The Machinist position involves operating CNC and conventional machinery to manufacture components for military applications like aircraft, submarines, or other defense systems. This role is essential in ensuring high-quality production and timely delivery of parts, contributing to the company's mission in the aerospace and defense industries.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate a variety of machinery, including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment, often working with specialized alloys.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD/CAM data to understand specifications and tolerances.
  • Program and edit CNC machines, and select appropriate speeds, feeds, and tooling for each job.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments like micrometers, calipers, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to verify they meet strict tolerances.
  • Adhere to military and aerospace quality standards, such as AS9100 or ISO certifications, and follow all safety procedures.
  • Work with engineers, quality control specialists, and production personnel to develop prototypes, modify parts, and solve production challenges.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on machinery to ensure productivity and safety.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience with both manual and CNC machining is often.
  • The ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings is critical.
  • Independently program, edit programs, set up and run CNC or conventional machines.
  • A keen eye for detail is crucial for producing high-precision parts.
  • The ability to troubleshoot machining issues, identify and resolve tolerance deviations, and suggest process improvements.
Education & Experience High School diploma, or equivalent experience/combined education 2+ years of machining experience with either CNC and/or conventional machines. At strong understanding of machinist math, tooling, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is essential. Experience with specific CNC controls (e.g., Fanuc, Mitsubishi) may be necessary.
