(SMI), we're looking for a hands-on leader who can bridge the gap between management and the shop floor. This isn't a position for someone who wants to sit behind a desk all night. It's for a machinist who enjoys helping others succeed, solving problems, and setting the tone for the shift. As our CNC Machinist Team Lead, you'll serve as the primary technical resource and leader for the shift. You'll help keep work flowing, support operators and setup personnel, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, and ensure production goals are met safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate has a strong machining background across both CNC mills and lathes, understands the realities of a production environment, and takes pride in helping others improve. General Responsibilities Lead and support the second shift machining team to exceed production goals Coordinate daily priorities to ensure jobs move through the shop efficiently Serve as the primary point of contact for production-related issues during the shift Assist operators and machinists with setups, troubleshooting, and process improvements Help maintain production schedules and communicate issues that could impact delivery Verifying jobs are being run according to prints, work instructions, and quality requirements Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement Train and mentor operators and machinists as they develop their skills Work closely with engineering, quality, and leadership to resolve manufacturing challenges Support machine utilization and help identify opportunities to improve efficiency Develop processes and machine code for new opportunities Requirements 5+ years of CNC machining experience Strong working knowledge of both CNC mills and lathes Experience performing machine setups and troubleshooting production issues Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T Strong understanding of precision measuring equipment and inspection methods CNC programming (G-Code and CAM) knowledge and the ability to write/edit programs when required Excellent organizational, communication, and planning skills Proven ability to lead by example and earn the respect of a team Preferred Qualifications Prior leadership, lead, trainer, or mentoring experience Experience with multi-axis CNC equipment Familiarity with aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing environments Understanding of Swiss machining operations Experience working with ERP or manufacturing scheduling systems Basic understanding of Wire EDM operations and programming Ability to identify process improvements and support continuous improvement initiatives Key Performance Metrics Success in this role isn't measured by how many machines you personally run.
