Precision Grinder Job Description We are seeking a skilled Precision Grinder responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining surface grinding machines to produce precision flat and contoured surfaces. Responsibilities Set up and operate manual and programmable wet surface grinding machines, including various equipment. Select, mount, and dress grinding wheels; adjust speeds, feeds, and fixturing to meet part and print requirements. Read and interpret blueprints, shop travelers, and complex GD&T specifications. Perform in‑process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, depth mics, and optical comparators. Troubleshoot setups and perform routine machine maintenance, including wheel dressing and minor adjustments, to maintain accuracy and surface finish. Work in a low-volume, high-mix toolroom environment holding tight tolerances and high cosmetic standards. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area while following all safety procedures and PPE requirements. Collaborate with operations, engineering, and administrative teams to meet quality and production goals. Perform additional duties as required to support shop needs. Essential Skills 5 to 10 years of precision manual surface grinding experience with recognized brand grinders. Ability to fully set up and program surface grinders. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints. Experience using precision measuring tools and hand tools. Additional Skills & Qualifications Wire EDM Programming experience is a plus. Work Environment Machine shop environment that is clean and well-lit, featuring a mixture of old and new machines. The company is progressively upgrading its equipment. The team consists of 14-15 individuals, fostering a collaborative atmosphere. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mt Clemens, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $32.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
