Manual Machinist - High-Mix / Low-Volume Environment Job Summary We are seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to produce precision parts in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment. You will set up and operate traditional machine tools (lathes, mills, drills, etc.) to fabricate a wide variety of parts in small quantities, often one-off or short-run. Success in this role requires strong setup skills, the ability to quickly interpret new blueprints, and the flexibility to handle frequent changeovers while maintaining tight tolerances and high quality. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate manual machine tools including engine lathes, vertical and horizontal mills, drill presses, and related equipment for diverse part families. Rapidly interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and work orders for frequently changing jobs; determine efficient machining sequences, tooling, speeds, and feeds. Machine a wide variety of materials and part geometries to close tolerances, typically in small batches or single pieces. Select and prepare cutting tools, fixtures, and work-holding methods suited to short-run production. Perform precise in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, and other metrology tools. Maintain machines through daily cleaning, lubrication, and basic adjustments. Follow all safety protocols, wear required PPE, and keep the work area organized amid frequent job changes. Collaborate with programming, engineering, and quality teams to resolve technical challenges and meet delivery schedules. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; formal machining training or apprenticeship preferred. 2+ years of hands-on manual machining experience, ideally in a job shop, toolroom, or high-mix/low-volume setting. Proven ability to independently set up and run manual lathes and mills on a wide variety of parts. Strong blueprint reading skills, including geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T). Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and shop math. Solid knowledge of materials, tooling, and machining best practices for short-run work. Preferred Qualifications Experience in prototype, repair, or custom fabrication environments. Basic understanding of CNC concepts or hybrid manual/CNC shops. Toolmaking, fixturing, or secondary process skills (welding, grinding, etc.). Physical & Work Environment Requirements Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks. Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise, coolants, oils, and metal chips. Must adhere to all company safety policies. Pay:

$26.00 - $30.00 per hour
