Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist for a direct-hire opportunity with an established precision machining company in Elk River. This position is ideal for a skilled machinist who wants to do more than simply operate a machine and is interested in taking ownership of their work, contributing to overall shop operations, and growing with the company. The ideal candidate can independently set up CNC equipment with minimal supervision, make minor programming edits, and consistently produce tight-tolerance parts. For the right individual, this position offers significant long-term growth potential, including the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities and potentially lead or run shop operations in the future.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up and operate CNC machining equipment with minimal supervision. Machine precision components to tight tolerances while maintaining high standards for quality and workmanship. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and detailed work instructions. Make minor CNC programming edits and adjustments as needed. Set and adjust tooling, offsets, and machine parameters to maintain quality and production efficiency. Use precision measuring equipment to inspect completed components and verify dimensional accuracy. Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and production issues. Monitor machining processes and make necessary adjustments to maintain efficient production. Work with both simple and detailed instructions depending on job requirements. Train and support production personnel to help maintain productivity and quality standards. Take ownership of assigned jobs from setup through completion. Identify opportunities to improve machining processes, workflow, quality, and efficiency. Communicate effectively with ownership, management, and production team members. Contribute to overall shop operations beyond day-to-day machine operation. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Take on increased shop leadership and operational responsibilities as experience and knowledge of the organization grow.
Qualifications:
Previous CNC machining experience required. Strong CNC setup experience with the ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to make minor CNC programming edits and adjustments. Experience machining precision components to tight tolerances. Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills. Experience using precision measuring tools and inspection equipment. Strong understanding of tooling, offsets, feeds, speeds, and machining processes. HAAS machine experience preferred but not required. GibbsCAM experience is a plus. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability and willingness to train and support production personnel. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Reliable and dependable with strong communication skills. Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and ownership of responsibilities. Leadership potential and interest in taking on additional shop responsibilities over time strongly preferred. Ability to work effectively in a small, family-oriented environment where teamwork, communication, and overall fit are highly valued. Ability to stand for extended periods and perform the physical activities associated with CNC machining and material handling.
Working Conditions:
Precision contract machining and manufacturing environment. Regular exposure to CNC machining and turning equipment, tooling, metal components, and other manufacturing equipment. Position requires consistent attention to dimensional accuracy, quality, safety, and workmanship. Hands-on position requiring involvement beyond basic machine operation. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
