Job Description
The ideal candidate for this position has extensive experience with operating and programming both CNC Mills and Lathes as well as mechanical aptitude, a high level of attention to detail and the ability to read technical drawings and use computer software.
Responsibilities:
- Communicates effectively with other departments to ensure efficient and timely production to meet deadlines. Programs and operates plant fabrication equipment and machinery.
- Maintains a list of what is in production and the status in the Machine Shop.
- Writes and edits programs for CNC machines using CAM software based off of CAD models and/or Engineering specifications. Writes and edits programs manually as needed.
- Sets up and operates
CNC Mills and CNC Lathes:
Properly and safely selects, aligns, secures, and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines as outlined in setup sheets. Uses gauges and precision measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements. Ability to maintain strict tolerances within (+- ) .003" when required.
- Strong working knowledge of advanced CNC automation practices, to include tool offsets, work coordinate systems, speeds and feeds calculations, spindle probing, tool setting, in-process probing cycles, subroutine programming, Macro programming, multi-axis machining, high density fixturing strategies and precision fixturing designs/methods.
- Identifies problems with workflow and/or machining processes. Communicates with Engineering to identify time/cost offenders and recommends solutions to optimize efficiency.
- Closely monitor machines to prevent malfunctions or waste. Analyzes and reports defective materials, tooling, equipment or questionable conditions in order to correct mistakes immediately and take measures to improve quality of product. Maintains QC processes.
- Trains new employees. Cross-trains and tracks which employees are trained adequately to perform assigned tasks, and can operate equipment effectively and safely.
- Builds and maintains training instructions for all CNC machines and Machine Shop processes.
- Understands and facilitates a safe work culture, ensuring compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Supervises and documents all equipment maintenance schedules. Responsible for ensuring all CNC machines and auxiliary equipment are in optimal condition to prevent unnecessary down time.
- Submits weekly reporting to Plant Manager and attends weekly production meeting.
- Works with Procurement Management for supplies and logistics. Keeps track of material and supply inventories, replacement tools, parts and equipment.
- Provides detailed data to Accounting for costing, to include material consumed, cycle times & tool consumption for every Machine Shop operation/sequence.
