Job Title:

Machinist Job Description This role involves setting up and operating CNC Haas mills and lathes in a clean, organized, and team-oriented shop environment. The machinist performs multiple daily setups, runs production parts to specification, and conducts quality inspections using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC Haas mill and lathe machines to produce parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. Perform an average of 45 machine setups per day, including changeovers, tooling adjustments, and program selection. Read and interpret blueprints to determine machining operations, dimensions, tolerances, and inspection requirements. Adjust tools and offsets to maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality throughout production runs. Operate additional shop equipment, including drill presses and other mechanical machinery, as needed. Conduct in-process and final quality inspections using micrometers, calipers, and other measuring instruments. Troubleshoot machining issues such as dimensional deviations, surface finish problems, and tooling wear, and make necessary corrections. Monitor machine operation, identify abnormalities, and take corrective actions to ensure safe and efficient production. Collaborate closely with the lead machinist and production leadership to prioritize work, resolve issues, and meet production schedules. Maintain a clean and organized work area, following shop safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment. Essential Skills 2+ years of experience running CNC mills or CNC lathes, or a recent 2-year technical degree in machining. At least 1 year of experience reading and interpreting blueprints. Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC Haas mills and/or lathes. Ability to perform multiple daily setups and changeovers efficiently. Proficiency in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers for quality inspection. Knowledge of tool offsets, machine operation, and basic troubleshooting of CNC machining processes. Mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining principles and shop practices. Ability to read and follow technical documentation, including blueprints and work instructions. Additional Skills & Qualifications Manual machining experience on conventional mills, lathes, or related equipment. Experience operating drill presses and other mechanical shop tools. Familiarity with CNC Haas controls and programming adjustments. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts. Safety is a core focus, and steel-toe boots and safety glasses are required at all times on the shop floor. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Owatonna, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
