Outside Machinist
Job Description
Outside Machinist $2,240 + WEEKLY Join SAVARD Personnel Group - where your skills are valued! Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPosition, level, and precisely align heavy propulsion systems, including steam turbines, diesel engines, reduction gears, propellers, and shafting.
Troubleshoot, dismantle, repair, overhaul, and test auxiliary mechanical systems.
Work with pumps, valves, compressors, heat exchangers, steering gears, and fluid systems.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to determine installation layouts and specifications.
Operate portable machining equipment, including boring bars and milling machines.
Use precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
Modify, repair, or fabricate components on-site as needed.
Safely utilize rigging equipment, cranes, jacks, and turnbuckles to move and secure heavy machinery components.
Collaborate with pipefitters, welders, shipfitters, electricians, and other trades to complete shipbuilding and overhaul projects.
Perform torch cutting and basic tack welding as required.
Follow all safety procedures and maintain proper use of required PPE.
Previous shipyard or military marine mechanical experience is highly preferred.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and marine terminology.
Proficiency with precision measurement tools and portable machining equipment.
Experience with torch cutting and basic tack welding.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
