CNC Machinist This role focuses on setting up, programming, and operating CNC mills and lathes in a climate-controlled machine shop that specializes in producing medical devices. You will work with CNC equipment from Lathe Centers, 4 Axis Milling and 5 Axis Milling Machines. The position involves interpreting complex blueprints and models, programming at the machine or via CAD/CAM, and machining precision components from materials such as steels, bronze, brass, stainless steel and plastics. The schedule offers a flexible second-shift structure with opportunities for overtime. Responsibilities Read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and digital models to determine machining requirements. Program CNC milling machines at the machine control or using CAD/CAM software. Upload and download CNC programs between the network/server and CNC machines. Set up CNC mills and lathes, indicate parts, and securely fixture workpieces before machining. Machine components to tight tolerances, ensuring proper fits, finishes, and dimensional accuracy. Select, install, and adjust tooling, feeds, speeds, and other machining parameters for optimal performance. Sharpen cutting tools using cutter grinders and maintain tooling condition as needed. Modify existing CNC programs and evaluate how changes affect subsequent operations and part quality. Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify dimensions within 0.005 mm / 0.0002 in. Operate multiple machines during long program cycles to maximize productivity and throughput. Prepare upcoming jobs, including tooling and setups, while current jobs are running to reduce setup time and downtime. Collaborate with other departments to support smooth workflow, accurate production, and on-time delivery. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in the machine shop. Operate both manual lathes and manual mills as needed to support production and secondary operations. Essential Skills Proficiency in CNC milling operations with at least 2+ years of relevant experience in programming and running CNC milling machines. Hands-on experience operating both CNC mills and CNC lathes, with the ability to perform setups and adjustments. Ability to perform manual machining on lathes and mills when required. Ability to read, understand, and interpret complex blueprints and engineeringdrawings. Competency and awareness of basic machining concepts and how different parts interact within an assembly. Experience with common CNC controls and their operation. Ability to read, write, and edit G and M code for CNC programs. Conversational programming capability on CNC machines. Ability to use precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges, to verify tight tolerances. Common computer skills to access and pull CNC programs from a server or network to the machine. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality parts. Capability to work with metals such as 4140, bronze, brass, and stainless steel. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience programming CNC machines using CAD/CAM software. Ability to upload and download CNC programs between the network and CNC machines efficiently. Skill in selecting appropriate tooling, feeds, and speeds for different materials and operations. Experience sharpening tools using cutter grinders and maintaining tooling inventories. Strong problem-solving skills to adjust programs and setups for improved performance and quality. Ability to manage multiple machines and tasks simultaneously in a production environment. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with other departments and team members. Application Question(s): Able to use micrometers and calipers
