Lead CNC Machinist - Haas Lathe & VMC About Webb Cutting Components Webb Cutting Components is a manufacturer of agricultural cutting components serving OEM and aftermarket customers. We are seeking an experienced Lead CNC Machinist who can independently program, set up, and operate Haas CNC lathes and vertical machining centers (VMCs). This is a hands-on position for an experienced machinist who understands the complete machining process - from reviewing a print and developing the machining strategy to offline programming in BobCAD-CAM, machine setup, first-piece approval, and production. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate Haas CNC lathes and Haas VMC machining centers. Use BobCAD-CAM for offline CNC programming of lathe and milling operations. Develop CNC programs offline to minimize machine downtime and improve productivity. Create and modify toolpaths, machining strategies, feeds, speeds, and cutting parameters in BobCAD-CAM. Transfer, verify, and prove out CNC programs at the machine. Edit and troubleshoot Haas/FANUC-style G-code as necessary. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, tolerances, and specifications. Develop machine setups including tooling, workholding, fixtures, offsets, and tool changes. Select appropriate cutting tools, holders, inserts, speeds, feeds, and machining parameters. Perform first-piece inspections and verify parts meet print specifications. Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, and other inspection tools. Troubleshoot programming, machining, tooling, setup, and quality issues. Monitor tool wear and make adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish. Optimize existing programs and machining processes to reduce cycle times and improve tool life. Develop machining processes and programs for new parts. Identify opportunities to improve fixtures, workholding, tooling, setups, and overall machining efficiency. Maintain organized CNC programs, tooling information, setup documentation, and fixtures. Perform routine machine care and coordinate maintenance needs. Assist with training and developing machine operators and other machinists. Work closely with operations, engineering, and quality personnel to resolve production issues. Follow all company safety and quality procedures. Qualifications Required 5+ years of CNC machining experience or equivalent demonstrated experience. Strong experience setting up and operating Haas CNC lathes and/or Haas VMCs. Experience with BobCAD-CAM or comparable CAD/CAM software. Demonstrated ability to perform offline CNC programming. Ability to independently take a job from print to CAM programming to machine setup to first-piece approval to production. Ability to edit and troubleshoot Haas/FANUC-style G-code. Strong understanding of CNC tooling, workholding, offsets, speeds, and feeds. Ability to read engineering drawings and understand GD&T and dimensional tolerances. Proficiency with precision measuring and inspection equipment. Strong mechanical aptitude and machining troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently and take ownership of machining jobs. Preferred Advanced experience with BobCAD-CAM. Experience programming both CNC turning and vertical milling operations. Experience creating machining strategies and programs from CAD models. Experience developing machining processes for new parts. Experience designing or improving fixtures and workholding. Experience optimizing existing programs for cycle-time reduction and improved tool life. Experience machining steel and other materials used in agricultural or industrial applications. Previous lead machinist, senior machinist, or shop leadership experience. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is a hands-on machinist, programmer, and problem solver who can review a part print or model, determine the machining strategy, develop the program offline using BobCAD-CAM, select the appropriate tooling and workholding, set up the Haas machine, prove out the program, produce a good first piece, and efficiently transition the job into production. This position requires someone who understands that effective CNC programming should happen offline whenever practical, allowing machine tools to remain productive rather than sitting idle while programs are developed.
