Job Description
We are seeking a Manual Machinist to join a growing industrial machine shop team specializing in the machining, repair, and reconditioning of large metal components used in critical mechanical equipment applications. This role focuses on precision machining work involving large-diameter rotating components and requires individuals who are skilled, self-motivated, and experienced operating large manual machine tools, including Bullard vertical turret lathes. Primary Responsibilities Demonstrate the ability to read and use precision measuring instruments for component inspection, including inside and outside micrometers, dial calipers, dial indicators, depth micrometers, bore gauges, telescoping gauges, radius gauges, groove gauges, steel rules, straightedges, feeler gauges, height gauges, surface plates, and tape measures, with the ability to verify dimensions within 0.0005" where required. Operate, set up, and maintain manual machine tools used for machining, repair, and reconditioning of large industrial components, including: Bullard vertical turret lathes for turning, facing, boring, grooving, and component reconditioning. Horizontal and vertical lathes for large-diameter parts and other rotating mechanical components. Review drawings, blueprints, work orders, and samples to ensure parts are machined to required dimensions, groove profiles, bore sizes, face runout tolerances, and surface finish requirements. Perform machining operations including rough and finish turning, bore cleanup, keyway preparation support, groove repair, re-grooving support, and inspection of worn or damaged surfaces. Conduct quality inspections of finished work, verifying groove condition, concentricity, bore fit, surface finish, dimensional accuracy, and overall workmanship. Accurately document measurements, inspection results, and completed work in accordance with shop procedures and quality standards. Maintain a safe and organized work environment while complying with all company safety requirements. Training & Development As part of the onboarding and development process, team members will receive training in specialized machining applications. Upon successful completion of designated training and qualification requirements, additional compensation opportunities may be available.
Training may include:
Bullard vertical turret lathe setup and operation for turning, facing, boring, and grooving large-diameter industrial components. Qualifications Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a machine shop or related manufacturing environment required. Experience operating large manual machine tools and working with heavy rotating components and mechanical assemblies. Experience machining, repairing, or inspecting large-diameter industrial components preferred. Experience setting up and operating Bullard vertical turret lathes preferred. Strong ability to inspect grooves, bores, faces, runout, overall diameters, groove depths/profiles, and worn surfaces using precision measuring instruments. Ability to accurately interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications. Strong attention to detail, quality, and craftsmanship. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
