Job Description
Job Overview CNC Mill/Lathe Programming/Tooling/Fixturing/Operating SAVIT is a defense industry prime contractor and in addition to production programs, we fabricate a large number of prototypes using CNC turning and milling equipment. We produce high precision aerospace grade parts for our weapons and munitions programs. We are AS9100 certified and hold quality, workmanship, and cleanliness to very high standards. We are seeking an additional individual to add to our team that can go from print or model to part. This may include drawing review/interpretation, working with engineering on manufacturing process maps, assisting in raw material selection, fixturing design/fabrication, tooling selection and setup, programming in Mastercam and at the machine, machining the components, verifying dimensions at the machine using standard measuring equipment, and delivering parts to SAVIT metrology for CMM inspection/validation. In addition to strong CNC machinist skills, this position requires the ability to read complex technical drawings and work with the engineering and manufacturing teams to determine stock material sizes, tool lists, and fixturing needs. This individual will program, set-up, and run CNC lathes, CNC mills, and manual machinery for prototype projects. Will perform inspection of mechanical parts using basic metrology tools and best practices prior to Quality Assurance check. Requires an understanding of GD&T, and the ability to operate independently. Maintains clear communication with team members and project leaders. Assists engineers with design suggestions or modifications for successful prototype projects with tight tolerances. Review engineering drawings, instructions, blueprints and make suggestions for fixturing and hitting tolerances and other prototype and producibility objectives. Program, set-up and operate 3, 4, & 5 axis milling centers. Program, set-up and operate CNC turning centers with live tooling and C axis. Program, set-up and operate CNC turning centers with live tooling, twin turret, twin spindle, with bar feeder. Hold tight tolerances. Inspect machined parts using calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, dial indicators and other basic inspection equipment. Other duties as assigned include assisting in inspection, precision assembly, or preparing time/material cost worksheets for new job estimates.
