Manual Machinist

Job Description

Description of Responsibilities:
Under limited direction, operate varied types of machines used to manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies. Keep work area neat and clean. Observe all safety procedures and use proper protective gear including, but not limited to, eye and ear protection. Assist other shop employees with skilled or non-skilled duties as directed. All duties performed may not be listed. Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Performed:
  • Set up, adjust, repair, maintain and operate lathes, shapers, milling machines, grinders, power hacksaws, boring equipment, and specialized machines.
  • Perform layouts, read and interpret drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Prepare and/or work from specifications, blueprints and sketches in accordance with accepted trade practices.
  • Machine worn shafts, gears, pistons, crank shafts and other specialized parts; and does the work involved in the rebushing of bearings, the reboring of cylinders, and the assembling and finishing of tools and equipment. Install, repair and /or make bearings, shafts, rods, housing, discs, handles, bushings, hubs, keyways, gears and other parts.
  • Set up and perform tool-post grinding operations (e.g. precision surface facing), broaching procedures, and babbitt bearing work.
  • Balance mechanical assemblies using dynamic balancing equipment.
  • Perform various welding operations, including setup and use of MIG, TIG, torch and stick welders.
  • Perform various metalizing techniques as needed.
  • Use various hand-held and stationary power tools, including but not limited to: band saws, belt sanders, hand grinders, files, etc.
  • Lift, tighten, adjust, and/or secure heavy objects in order to perform work and/or to observe safety precautions.
  • Record all data necessary to produce expected service and/or design results, including sizing and illustrations.
Use measuring devices and techniques correctly to assure proper sizing.
Requirements:
High school diploma plus some trade school, vocational/technical school, military, or on-the-job machine shop work or training. Four years of experience in machine shop operations preferred. Appointees must possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey and abide by the company's motor vehicle policy. Overtime required for emergency, rush jobs as needed. "D" Electric Motors is looking for an experienced Manual Machinist to operate manual lathes, mills, grinders and other machining tools to manufacture and repair precision components.
