Job Description

Position Summary:
Deburrs grooved, contoured, and irregular surfaces of metal objects, such as machined parts, to conform to templates other parts, layout or blueprints specification.
Essential Job Functions:
Studies blueprint, operations sheets, sketches, or layout on workpieces, and selects tools according to material, size and shape of work, and amount of stock to be removed, applying knowledge of deburring procedures. Deburrs workpiece surfaces to layout lines or other specifications, inspects with magnifying glass and evaluates surface finishes. Verifies conformity of finished workpieces by positioning workpieces against template or other part, or by measuring dimensions, using instruments, such as vernier calipers, micrometers, and surface gauges. Smooths and polishes workpieces with emeriti cloth or power buffer and feels surface with fingers for smoothness. May test workpieces by mounting in press or with other parts and operating press or machine. Inspects and measures parts to maintain statistical process control charts.
Training and Experience:
Between 1 and 2 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship.
Physical Demands:
The employee is required to: Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor. Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or Exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or Exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Visual Acuity:
Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used instruments use in the inspection of parts.
Hearing Ability:
Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.
Working Conditions:
The employee is subject to: High noise levels from operating machines Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts Breathing fumes, dust, and mists Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids. The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
