Job Title:
Machinist Job Description This role focuses on operating CNC lathes to produce high-quality, precision machined components within tight tolerances. You will work with a variety of CNC lathe machinery, interpret G and M code, perform setups and offsets, and ensure all parts meet strict quality standards through thorough inspection and documentation. Responsibilities Operate CNC lathe machinery, including Mori Seiki, Samsung, and Doosan equipment, to manufacture precision components. Read and interpret G and M code, including understanding coolant functions and tool actions, to ensure correct machine operation. Work from process sheets, blueprints, setup sheets, setup cards, machine status boards, and both verbal and written instructions to complete jobs accurately. Machine, install, or re-cut components as required to meet specifications and quality standards. Insert and secure tooling in machine turrets and verify proper tool selection and placement. Use hand tools and manual machines as needed to support machining operations and part finishing. Perform machine setups as required, including loading programs, setting tools, and verifying workholding. Download and upload programs into machines and make minor programming adjustments to optimize performance and part quality. Operate various types of computerized numerical controls to complete a wide range of machining operations within tight tolerances. Adjust offset coordinates to compensate for material variation, tooling wear, or machine center conditions to maintain dimensional accuracy. Perform basic troubleshooting on machines and processes and make appropriate adjustments to resolve issues. Set up and verify preset gauges for proper calibration as required to support accurate inspection. Collaborate with supervisors, programmers, and support teams to resolve problem situations and improve processes. Inspect own work to verify correct dimensions and ensure quality and quantity standards are met, completing all required documentation. Inspect the work of other machinists when required to ensure compliance with specifications and company standards. Operate multiple machines when needed to support production demands and workflow. Support continuous improvement activities, including participation in formal improvement initiatives and daily process enhancements. Load and unload component piece parts weighing up to 25 lbs safely and efficiently. Essential Skills Minimum of 3 years of CNC lathe operation experience. Strong ability to read and understand G and M code and apply it to machine operation. Hands-on experience with basic machine setup for CNC lathes. Ability to perform machine offsets and make precise adjustments to maintain part accuracy. Proficiency in blueprint reading and working from detailed process documentation. Ability to perform quality inspection on machined parts to verify dimensions and tolerances. Experience operating CNC lathe equipment such as Mori Seiki, Samsung, and Doosan machines. Familiarity with machine offsets, G code, and M code in a production environment. High school diploma or GED. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience adjusting machine speeds and feeds to optimize cycle times and surface finish. Comfort working with various CNC and manual machining equipment in a shop environment. Ability to use hand tools, gauges, and measuring instruments for setup and inspection. Willingness to train and mentor less experienced machinists when needed. Experience entering data into an ERP system. Experience in aerospace or precision manufacturing environments is a plus. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
