Job Title:
Machinist Summary:
A highly qualified Machinist sets up and operates manual and CNC machining equipment to produce precision parts to exacting aerospace tolerances. This role requires deep hands-on machining expertise, strong blueprint and GD&T interpretation skills, and the judgment to independently plan, program, and execute complex jobs with minimal supervision. The Machinist is responsible for producing high-quality parts efficiently, maintaining tight tolerances, and upholding safety and quality standards on the shop floor.
Core Responsibilities:
Machine Setup and Operation:
Set up and operate manual and CNC mills, lathes, and related equipment, including programming, tool selection, and offsets, to produce precision parts from raw stock through to finished product.
Blueprint and GD&T Interpretation:
Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T callouts to determine machining sequence, tooling, and setup requirements.
Quality and Precision:
Perform in-process and final inspection using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM as applicable) to ensure parts meet tight aerospace tolerances and specifications.
Programming and Process Improvement:
Write, edit, and optimize CNC programs; identify and implement process improvements to reduce cycle time and scrap while maintaining quality.
Tooling and Maintenance:
Select appropriate tooling and fixtures for each job, and perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on assigned equipment to minimize downtime.
Mentorship:
Serve as a technical resource and mentor for less experienced machinists, sharing best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols and procedures, maintain a clean and organized work area, and ensure compliance with applicable quality and regulatory standards. Required Skills and Qualifications Expert-level ability to set up and operate Manual and CNC milling machines, lathes, and other related equipment to produce high-quality, tight-tolerance parts. Experience with Proto
TRAK CNC
mill is a plus. Experience operating a Doosan 5700 or a machine with a Fanuc 10M controller is a bonus. 7-10+ years of hands-on experience in a machine shop environment, with a strong track record of running complex, high-precision jobs independently. In-depth knowledge of machining processes, materials, and related technical concepts. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications. Proficiency with relevant CAD/CAM and CNC programming software. Experience with aerospace or other high-tolerance/regulated manufacturing environments strongly preferred. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Pay:
$27.00 - $35.00 per hour
