Description
Manual Lathe Operator
Position Overview We are seeking a qualified Manual Lathe Operator with the ability to machine a wide range of metals up to 20 inches in diameter. The ideal candidate must be proficient in blueprint reading and capable of machining to tight tolerances, including precision requirements up to 0.0005 inches. This position requires strong technical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy, quality, and safety standards. Responsibilities & Authorities Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, and operating within established company policies, procedures, and budgets, the Manual Lathe Operator is responsible for the following: Produce machined parts in accordance with schedules, procedures, and work instructions.
Perform inspections and verification of machined components.
Participate in corrective actions to resolve quality or process issues.
Maintain quality system documentation as required.
Ensure compliance with all relevant manufacturing documents and procedures.
Verify operations are performed according to approved processes.
Control non-conforming product identified during manufacturing.
Identify improvement opportunities within machining processes.
Utilize statistical techniques to support process improvements.
Communicate with management to resolve blueprint or specification discrepancies.
Ensure adherence to production schedules.
Maintain product identification and traceability throughout manufacturing.
Maintain accurate job counts and ensure all labor transactions are properly recorded.
Maintain a clean, safe, and functional work area.
Participate in continuous improvement activities as required.
Ensure proper use and application of tooling.
Complete all required training successfully.
Execute general manufacturing responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Proven experience operating a manual lathe.
Ability to machine metals up to 20" diameter.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
Demonstrated ability to hold tight tolerances (up to 0.0005").
Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and measurement equipment.
Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
