Job Description
Build the Skills Most Machinists Never Get the Opportunity to Learn At Conturo Prototyping, we machine complex prototype components for aerospace, defense, robotics, energy, and space customers. We're looking for an experienced CNC machinist who wants to take the next step in their career by learning 5-axis programming from one of our senior programmers. This is not an entry-level position. We're looking for someone with strong machining fundamentals who wants to grow into an advanced programming role. What You'll Do Set up and operate CNC machining centers Perform complex machine setups, including tooling, workholding, and work offsets Work directly with our lead programmer on challenging prototype parts Learn Fusion 360 CAD/CAM and advanced 5-axis machining strategies Verify programs, troubleshoot machining issues, and suggest process improvements Perform in-process inspection and verify part quality Support fixture design, tooling selection, and manufacturing planning Grow into programming increasingly complex 3-, 4-, and 5-axis parts What You Should Already Know We're looking for someone with strong machining fundamentals, including: CNC setup experience Tool setting and offset management Fixture setup and indicating Blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation Precision inspection using common measuring equipment Tool selection and machining fundamentals Understanding of speeds, feeds, and material behavior Basic G-code editing and CNC control knowledge Safe rigging and forklift operation Basic computer skills Strong mechanical aptitude and 3D spatial awareness Positive attitude and willingness to learn What You'll Learn You'll receive direct mentorship from an experienced programmer and develop skills in: Fusion 360 CAD/CAM Advanced toolpath strategies Simultaneous 5-axis machining Complex workholding and fixturing Prototype machining techniques Manufacturing process development High-precision machining for aerospace, defense, and space applications Who We're Looking For The ideal candidate is an experienced machinist who enjoys solving difficult problems and wants to become an expert in advanced CNC manufacturing. We care more about your machining ability, attention to detail, and willingness to learn than whether you've already programmed complex parts. Qualifications 3+ years of CNC machining experience preferred Strong setup and machining skills Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings Experience with precision measurement Strong communication and problem-solving skills Experience with Fusion 360 is a plus but not required Why Conturo?
