Job Description

Gazzam Machine Co., a machine shop that has been in business since 1906, is seeking an experienced Machinist to join our small job-shop team. This is a hands-on position for a skilled machinist who can work independently, solve problems, and take ownership of a job from setup through completion. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working with both manual and CNC lathes and mills . This is not a machine-operator position . We need a machinist who understands the machining process, can make decisions on the shop floor, and can produce quality parts with limited supervision. What You'll Do Set up and operate manual and CNC lathes and milling machines . Perform machine setups, including tooling, workholding, offsets, and workpiece alignment. Perform new-program walkthroughs , verify tool paths and setups, and make necessary adjustments before and during production. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and machining specifications . Measure and inspect completed and in-process parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment. Adjust tool offsets and cutting conditions to consistently hold print dimensions and tolerances. Recognize and troubleshoot machining, tooling, and dimensional issues and determine appropriate corrective action. Select appropriate tooling, workholding, speeds, feeds, and machining methods based on the material and job requirements. Work with a variety of materials, including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other common machining materials. Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks. Make decisions about machining sequence and methods to efficiently and accurately complete one-off and small-batch jobs. Maintain accurate documentation and communicate job status, issues, and material or tooling needs. Keep machines, tooling, and the work area clean, organized, and properly maintained. Assist with basic machine maintenance and identify equipment issues before they become larger problems. Work safely and follow established shop procedures and quality standards. What We're Looking For Several years of hands-on machining experience in a job-shop or similar manufacturing environment. Demonstrated ability to operate both CNC and manual lathes and mills . Strong blueprint and print-reading skills. Ability to independently perform machine setups and make appropriate tooling and offset adjustments. Strong understanding of precision measurement and inspection techniques. Ability to troubleshoot problems and determine the best way to complete a job. Good understanding of cutting tools, workholding, speeds, feeds, and machining practices. Comfortable working with tight tolerances and demanding dimensional requirements . Ability to work independently without constant direction or supervision. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Good mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills. Reliable, organized, and willing to take ownership of assigned work. Ability to communicate effectively with other members of a small shop team. Programming Experience CNC programming experience is not required. You should, however, be comfortable understanding CNC programs, walking through a new program, verifying the setup and tool path, and making appropriate tool offset and operational adjustments to produce the required part. The most important requirement is that you are a capable, independent machinist who understands how to make the machine and tooling produce the part correctly. If you are an experienced machinist who can think for yourself, set up machines, solve problems, and consistently produce quality parts, we'd like to hear from you.
