Job Description

Job Title:
Outside Machinist (Marine/Shipyard) We are seeking a skilled Outside Machinist to join our shipyard team. Unlike shop machinists, you will be our "boots on the ground" expert, installing, repairing, and testing complex mechanical systems directly onboard Coast Guard cutters, commercial fishing vessels, tugs, and ships. If you have a passion for heavy iron and precision alignment, we want you on our docks.
Key Responsibilities System Installation:
Install and align propulsion machinery, including shafts, propellers, rudders, and engines.
Mechanical Repair:
Overhaul and repair shipboard systems such as windlasses, cranes, steering gear, pumps, and valves.
Precision Measurement:
Use micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and laser alignment tools to ensure tolerances meet stringent maritime standards.
Testing:
Conduct dock trials and sea trials to verify the integrity of mechanical repairs..
Required Qualifications Direct Shipyard Experience:
8 years of experience or more as an Outside Machinist specifically within a shipyard or marine repair facility.
Vessel Familiarity:
Proven experience working on a variety of hulls, including Coast Guard cutters, tugboats, and commercial fishing vessels.
Technical Proficiency:
Expert knowledge of marine engine timing, shafting, and auxiliary systems.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying Rhode Island weather conditions.
Safety Mindset:
Strict adherence to OSHA maritime standards and PPE requirements.
