Experience Required:

8+ years of hands-on CNC and manual machining experience, including complex multi-axis work. Education /

Certification:

High school diploma or equivalent required; formal machinist apprenticeship, technical degree, or equivalent journeyman-level certification strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities Sets up, and runs the most complex CNC (3, 4, and 5-axis) and manual machining jobs from blueprints, CAD/CAM models, or verbal specifications with minimal oversight. Designs and builds custom tooling, fixtures, and work-holding solutions to solve first-run or non-standard production problems. Diagnoses and resolves machine, tooling, and process problems that other levels escalate; performs first-article inspection and process validation on new or high-risk jobs. Recommends design or process changes to improve quality, speed, or cost. Trains, mentors, and technically directs Level B, C, and D machinists. Leads root-cause investigations on scrap, rework, or non-conformance issues and implements corrective/preventive actions (fits directly into Kaizen / continuous improvement activity). Operates independently across multiple work centers and can be pulled onto any job in the shop with little to no ramp-up time. Required Skills Expert-level blueprint reading, GD&T interpretation, and precision measurement (CMM, height gauges, optical comparators, etc.). Advanced G-code programming and CAM software proficiency (e.g., Mastercam). Deep knowledge of materials, tooling selection, speeds/feeds optimization, and multi-operation process planning. Strong troubleshooting, mentoring, and communication skills.

Supervision:

Works under general direction only; exercises technical leadership and informal supervision over lower-level machinists.

Pay:
